At a time where the state is playing with the idea of cutting MH diagnostic services entirely, it is VITALLY IMPORTANT that you accept people's self diagnoses with the same level of appreciation and care as a formal one. You should also be much more oppositional to anyone who belittles self diag.

If anything this is much more important than the opposite schtick about "just coz someone disagrees with you doesnt make them a horrible person".
Not only do we need to accept that allies aren't always amicable, we need to be wary that sometimes they can be actively harmful.

this infected our NHS discourse decades ago. The idea that a chronic health condition, even if "self inflicted", is how we dripfed the idea of social murder and eugenics back into mainstream politics.
