this is such an interesting thread! it’s easy to assume intent without understanding how processes work.

that’s why it’s cool to see people explaining them. and it helps us to understand where the breakdowns happen that we only see the results of on the public-facing side.
IARC is in many ways a great tool - a full submission to the ESRB can be pretty expensive and navigating multiple ratings agencies around the world is a full time job (we have a team dedicated to it!).

It’s also a system that leaves devs and pubs open to catastrophic surprises like this.

Exactly! They don't see Art. They only see Product. And with endless Product shall come endless profit.

Art is inherently a form of self-expression. You have to put something of yourself into your art for it to work. Your dreams, your hopes, your values, your fears, your horniness.

Brian Penny used to work for a firm that ghostwrote op-eds for celebrities and executives. It had a system that would match a celebrity up with writers, would build out the op-ed, and get it published—accounting for many of the op-eds out there. That system has largely been automated by AI now.

I think the fundamental gap here is that non-creative people think that creative people make things for the end product, when in fact it’s the act of creation and not the end point that makes it worthwhile.

hi.

are you going to a rally, council meeting or statehouse session?

you need to start asking policymakers “were any of the initiatives, policies or ordinances you're proposing written with AI?”

if so uh…. houston we have a problem
"Slop" is “such an illustrative word,” said Greg Barlow, Merriam-Webster’s president, told the AP ahead of Monday’s announcement. “It’s part of a transformative technology, AI, and it’s something that people have found fascinating, annoying and a little bit ridiculous.” https://to.pbs.org/4oTxgas
Merriam-Webster's word of the year for 2025 is AI 'slop'
"Slop" was first used in the 1700s to mean soft mud, but it evolved more generally to mean something of little value.

I told my partner this morning that I wish I had the time and energy to read around monetary policy and crypto because I have a nascent thought about two economies, racial capitalism, and tech finally unlocking the dream of caste to permanently bifurcate a nation’s power from its lowest castes.

I’ll never forget his warmth and unpretentiousness. Rob Reiner was the proverbial mensch. May he and his wife rest in peace. His memory will always be a blessing to me from that one small interaction we had. I’m sure he touched people’s lives like this everywhere he went. We’ll miss him.

He's also responsible for raising all the money that paid for bringing Hollingsworth v. Perry & even more importantly Bostic v. Schaefer, which created the circuit split that forced SCOTUS to take on Obergefell v. Hodges. The role he played in American marriage equality cannot be overstated.
The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.
