We’re not big TV people so we don’t tend to put on the TV for the toddler but yesterday we all needed to chill out so I put on the original 1970s Muppet movie. It was in VHS rotation for me when I was little. I don’t think the slapstick pastiche of other genres actually works for little kids!

I think students are generally capable of whatever we prepare them for and expect of them, but it might be frustrating that the seeds we plant don’t blossom right away. I think that teachers’ complaints are sometimes that they wish that other teachers had already done the teaching for them.

I got a wonderfully kind note yesterday from someone who read my essay about collecting Leslie Feinberg and Minnie Bruce Pratt's papers, so I'm going to stop being shy about sharing it: “Things People Gave Me.” Journal of Lesbian Studies. doi.org/10.1080/1089... (DM me for a free link if needed.)
I did a course with a historian and graduate students on Monday and I asked him how he organizes his notes. He replied that the purpose of research is writing. When he learns something, he writes about it, and then he creates a footnote. Everything else is a procrastination tool.

Considering that OCLC just laid off so many people, including the archives experts, this does not surprise me. I’m sure that the survivors are doing the best they can but this blog post is less than useless.
I have read through the new OCLC blog post about AI in archives (hangingtogether.org/exploring-ai...) and liveblogged my response over on Mastodon.
Overall, it really doesn't feel like they consulted with archivists or took our expertise seriously.
