Just got my copy of the fab @katelaity.bsky.social’s translation & introduction to this peculiar & fascinating 1826 volume, The Art of Drawing Cards and The Tarot, by Aldegonde Pérenna, the Polish Sybil (aka Gabrielle Paban). Mothman has more of a comment than a question. He can tedious, I’m sorry.

The wicker monkeys created a distraction, bursting into a rousing chorus of the 12 Days of Christmas. Their sinister simian language remains unintelligible to the middle-aged man with the long blond ponytail so he is vaguely unsettled but as yet unaware that the familiar melody conceals a darker truth about this reality for which he is not yet ready. Day 4 of #Alxbeercember is NOT from Bradenton, Florida as my now-deleted previous post mistakenly stated. That’s because this beer is from New York. And because Bradenton, and I cannot emphasize this strongly enough, does not exist.

We should absolutely laugh at this hollow earth motherfucker, but maybe we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact Matt Gaetz’s brother-in-law has billions in US defense contracts & is gonna waste a lot of tax money antagonizing the Mole People, which didn’t go so great for these (movie) archaeologists.

It doesn’t go well for anyone, including the viewer. Most viewers, anyway. I rather enjoy this strange plodding adventure in which the guy most GenXers such as myself think of as the befuddled & largely ineffective patriarch of the Cleaver family, marches off to adventure. Low-budget adventure. Adventure filled with a lot of expository dialogue, b-roll of real expeditions but with none of the discovery & all the slow plodding wide-shots, and actors in cheap rubber masks and suits.

I thought I could maintain momentum last night long enough to post @fishinnards.bsky.social Day 3 #ALXbeercember, but I was mistaken.

He’s still wearing his wool coat and a scarf for some reason that escapes me now. The wicker monkeys align on a wicker chain that hangs from the ceiling and stretches across the room. Are they plotting an assault on the Christmas tree or wishing that they too had an advent calendar of curated beers. No one will ever know because I just spent an outrageous amount of time fighting autocorrect, which was certain the wicker monkeys would prefer a curated collection of “bears” or “beets” but not beer. The middle aged man with the long blond ponytail will need to comment on the type of bear he received and his enjoyment of same.

We all encounter disability rights and accommodations in everyday life. However, people with disabilities pay a price for the legal recognition of their rights. People who park in disabled parking spots, use service dogs, move to the front of lines, receive Social Security benefits, or request academic accommodations are often viewed as faking disabilities and abusing the law. This disability con stereotype thus serves as an important invisible barrier preventing Americans with disabilities from fully taking part in society, as it not only undermines the public legitimacy of rights but also restricts the design and implementation of the legal regime illustrating those. Nevertheless, this moral panic around disability con in American society and its manifestations has yet to be studied in a systematic-empirical way, nor has it been addressed in socio-legal scholarship. Using a mixed-methods approach composed of an original nationally representative survey along with in-depth interviews, this article fills this gap.
