I need to quit watching this but it’s too delightful to fade away yet so I’m pinning it for a spell.
The Ninth Configuration (1979) is a gothic horror-comedy set in a secret military asylum in a gothic castle on an island in the Pacific NW. Jason Miller understood the assignment. His intensity & commitment is a marvel. youtu.be/_hAA_ppWwks?...

Just got my copy of the fab @katelaity.bsky.social’s translation & introduction to this peculiar & fascinating 1826 volume, The Art of Drawing Cards and The Tarot, by Aldegonde Pérenna, the Polish Sybil (aka Gabrielle Paban). Mothman has more of a comment than a question. He can tedious, I’m sorry.

Day 6 of #ALXbeercember, in which @fishinnards.bsky.social begins to ask questions about all of these photos & I begin lobbying @deptofbeerandwine.bsky.social to carry Zeke’s Coffee beans bc I can’t be expected to write without Tell-Tale Dark roast coffee & the roastery is several miles away!*

Day 4 of #Alxbeercember is NOT from Bradenton, Florida as my now-deleted previous post mistakenly stated. That’s because this beer is from New York. And because Bradenton, and I cannot emphasize this strongly enough, does not exist.

Day 5 of @fishinnards.bsky.social & DBW #ALXbeercember. This one is from Bradenton, Florida, which everyone knows is not a real place.

Fact
John Agar made a whole movie warning us not to mess with the Mole People. Does no one pay attention anymore? (Rhetorical question.)
December 4, 2025 at 10:30 PM
We should absolutely laugh at this hollow earth motherfucker, but maybe we shouldn’t lose sight of the fact Matt Gaetz’s brother-in-law has billions in US defense contracts & is gonna waste a lot of tax money antagonizing the Mole People, which didn’t go so great for these (movie) archaeologists.

In an effort to get into the spirit of the Christmas season, I bought some festive fair isle sweaters. Am I doing this right?

In unrelated news, I’ve discovered my 12 foot skeleton can get (almost) matching eyeglasses. Don’t tell him, they’re going to be a surprise!

I thought I could maintain momentum last night long enough to post @fishinnards.bsky.social Day 3 #ALXbeercember, but I was mistaken.

To live with a professional DJ with an incomprehensible knowledge of current popular music (in multiple genres!) is to wonder “Is he having a stroke, studying Ancient Greek, dabbling in the dark arts, or speaking in tongues?” pretty regularly.
I see child free friends sharing their wrapped and it is all either Taylor Swift or made up words I never heard of 😭👴🏼

I knew id gotten out of touch but dang these artist lists are like

1) zopopu
2) Monjapan
3) Dale Dady Donder
4) X3rP
5) Lashiter Mongle

Day 2, observed, #ALXBeercember because I apparently can’t be trusted to keep up with this any better than @fishinnards.bsky.social - he can supply his own review in the replies. I’m not even sure what it is (other than beer).

I love it when people talk to me as if I neither am disabled nor actually study this in my own work. But let me pitch someone else's work here, Doron Dorfman's "Fear of the Disability Con."
Sharing it for everyone feeding the fear of the disability con right now:

Meanwhile, on my friend’s IG a dude’s berating us that we can’t just make up a word & say it means something. I mean, you sort of can. They’re words. But whatever. In conclusion radio publicity stunts (stunting) have a long silly history we definitely didn’t make up. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stuntin...

For Wired, I wrote about this week's stomach-churning Mad Men snafu, and about the larger perils of transferring classic shows into new formats:
HBO Max’s 'Mad Men' Barf Scene Proves ‘Remastered’ Doesn’t Mean ‘Better’
The errors in one of the most beautiful shows ever made continue a modern tradition of reformatting things that are better off left alone.

I feel bad for the crew of this series, who brought so much collective experience, skill, & artistry, working so hard to make Mad Men look & sound great. But I also laughed at this image for a solid 5 minutes.
God help me I had to check for myself if this is real, and it is. But also: this episode is "Red in the Face" and it's on the HBO Max site as "Babylon"! We used to be a proper country.
HBOMax has started showing a 'remastered' 4K Mad Men and they’ve messed things up so during Roger’s oyster vomit scene you can now see the crew men with the vomit hose on the right
