I write things that explain other things for USA TODAY NETWORK Florida. I also take pictures, mostly for me. My opinions are my own and I only agree with about half of them. He/him.

New followers, hi! I’m a trending writer for the USA TODAY NETWORK in Florida, which means I try to explain what’s going on, from hurricanes to politics to pop culture to health threats. Sometimes it helps.

I’m also a photographer for local performers, a dog dad, and a thrifter on weekends.
Dammit. John Varley died.

The worst of his work was still challenging. The best was some of my favorite science fiction anywhere.

I love the Red Thunder series, and the Wizard series, and the 9 Worlds stories.

Steel Beach and Golden Globe are gloriously messy, hilarious epics.

Thanks, man.

Great! Now acknowledge mo-cap actors and stunt performers.
Casting will get some Oscar love next year. A new prize for achievement in casting was added to the Academy Awards, a step casting directors believe is long overdue.

Just as I was thinking about getting a set of Murderbot books by @marthawells.com for my son for Christmas, Humble Bundle put em all out there.

Get these. Get these for other people.

My favorite series of the last decade and part of what you pay goes to support support World Central Kitchen.

Restaurants, I am *begging* you.

Please just let me see your damn menu without starting an order.

I don’t want to choose my location or select pickup or delivery. I don’t want to get shunted to another website.

I just want to see what you have so I know whether I want your food or not.

YouTube just tossed up something I never knew existed: a Match Game playoff between old TV shows. Just watched Skipper from Gilligan just completely smoke Batman’s Adam West and Thurston Howell trounce Professor Robinson from Lost in Space.

When I settle down to give my dog a good scratching I usually try to strike up conversation.

“Have you always wanted to be a dog? Did your parents push you into it?”

“You are the goodest boy. Is that an elected position, or…?”

Thus far he has held his secrets close, but I’ll keep trying.

Getting ready for bed. Teresa got up to change into a nightie and began an exaggerated and silly seductive dance, reached for a bra strap, and —

— got a strange look on her face before producing from her bra a three-foot Costco receipt she’d forgotten from our visit there four hours ago.

Amazon? I don't want to delay my delivery to bundle shipments or get more money back.

Instead, give me an option to choose delayed delivery and automatically grant the Amazon worker who gets my order a paid 5-minute break.

I really appreciate how @locusmag.bsky.social formats their upcoming books list. Each description starts with a simple GENRE, SERIES designation which really helps when I'm zipping through just looking for my next read and don't really want to read 300 words of a review to see if it meets my mood.
