I write things that explain other things for USA TODAY NETWORK Florida. I also take pictures, mostly for me. My opinions are my own and I only agree with about half of them. He/him.
I do appreciate an honest ad.

I still didn’t buy anything.

I swear at first glance I thought this said “Batman” and I was never more excited to read a book in my life.

Today’s mail brought two separate pin deliveries. A hoodie from @joshjohnsoncomedy.bsky.social and a random set of pins from @maximumfun.org ‘s moving sale.

Ten years ago, I got to see Arlo Guthrie play “Alice’s Restaurant” live for the 50th anniversary tour.

At the appropriate time in the song, he had to stop abruptly to explain to the younger people in the audience what “the draft” was.

Happy Thanksgiving, y’all.

Getting strong The Onion flashbacks.

Really admiring the copy editor’s commitment to using this specific font size, no matter what.

Sign outside my local bookstore. I’m seeing a lot of friends here, new and old.

Attention all thrift stores: If you sell your books arranged by color, please be aware that I dislike you and wish you ill.

Teresa shares a birthday with Harpo Marx, Tarzan and the premiere of “Doctor Who” but is not especially a fan of any of those things.

However, I can see the resemblance. She is also silly, loves sitting in trees and discovers new aspects of herself every few years. And has defeated aliens.

What with my wife using up all the cute in the world, it amazes me there’s enough left for the puppies and kittens. They must ration among themselves.

Happy birthday, Teresa. Never bored, never boring.

Some gas pumps still have faded, peeling stickers of Biden pointing and a word balloon reading “I Did That.” Others are more… direct.

Kiss you to become a prince? My dear madam, I am certain I would not so lower myself to enter affairs of state. Please, I beg you. Leave me be.

It’s had its ups and downs but the only time the Marvel Cinematic Universe has truly disappointed me is in “The Hulk” when Stan Lee drinks a gamma-dosed energy drink and it’s referred to as an incident and WE DIDN’T GET TO SEE A HULKED OUT STAN LEE RAMPAGING THROUGH AN ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY

Through dint of heroic effort and multiple agonizing decisions, I made it out of the Chamblin Bookmine with barely $100 of books.

Returned to an AirBnb where every room has been decorated a different way.

Last time it was a (mini) jungle paradise. This time we went for the attic, where they leaned into the shortened space and called it “glamping.”

OK, AirBnbs are evil and screw over people. But this is pretty cool.

Isn’t the Queen’s Gambit game just… chess?

Although if they made a chess-based game that requires you to defeat institutional misogyny and drug abuse to win the world championship I’d go for it. Maybe with little plastic amphetamine markers.

Got sent to a cardiologist just to see how I’m doing (so far, tests all good) and got to wear a heart monitor for a day to get a baseline.

Also, I can fly like Iron Man.

Early “Wicked: For Good” showing.

No spoilers for those who don’t know the play, but it was deeply satisfying and a great companion to the first.

One thing. While many of the other songs are intertwined with action, “For Good” is complete and emotional and perfect.

Just finished Tim Curry’s memoir “Vagabond.” “Rocky Horror” and “Clue” and his other big milestones were expected, but I was pleasantly surprised he mentioned his affection for “Oscar,”’one of my favorite underrated films.

His favorite movie making experience, bar none? “Muppets Treasure Island.”
