Evidence neoliberalism undergirds US refugee law. The BIA:"Not all threats of fines, wage reduction, or loss of employment . . . will suffice to indicate that submission to an abortion was 'forced' within the meaning of the [INA]." TLDR: coercive pop. control needs a severe economic cost.
Dividing the page with a thin black line, at the bottom are three logos of the co-sponsoring Georgetown Law organizations, from left to right: Disabled Law Students Association logo containing the disability flag colors in six stripes (red, yellow, white, blue, green, and gray);
Below the title are two gray boxes with text that read from left to right: Monday, November 3rd from 2:30pm to 4pm, virtual Zoom event, with a registration QR code that is scannable. Below is a line that reads: "ASL interpretation available" in all capital letters.

Meanwhile, this Admin is reinstating regressive policies revoking asylum protection for DV/GBV survivors, deeming them "private matters" outside the state's purview. See Matter of S-S-F-M- resurrecting then-AG Sessions’ 2018 Matter of A-B- (holding DV survivors should "generally" be denied asylum).
The Trump administration is now reportedly considering granting protection to members of far-right European parties.

There is nothing subtle about this effort: Trump officials are trying to turn the long-celebrated refugee program...into a tool of white nationalism.
Trump could soon make America’s refugee program a tool for white nationalism
The White House is considering a plan to overhaul refugee admissions in favor of right-wing whites.

Entrenched in 1A doctrine today. There were signs. "As originally understood, the Constitution does not afford students a right to free speech in public schools." (Thomas, J., concurring separately to dismantle Tinker). Morse v. Frederick (2007).
BREAKING: The White House has confirmed it's called the 5 institutions who haven't signed its compact to a meeting this afternoon. Insiders tell us it's "an effort to regain momentum by threatening institutions to sign" @knottkatherine.bsky.social has the scoop www.insidehighered.com/news/governm...
White House to Meet with Universities Regarding Compact
The scheduled meeting follows increasingly forceful pushback to the wide-ranging proposal.

Entrenched in 1A doctrine today. How far far astray we've come from Tinker (1969) & Papish (1973). "Students in public schools do not shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate." (White, J.).

If you have seen a pregnant, postpartum, or lactating woman in immigration custody, please let the Women's Refugee Commission know by submitting a report through the Detention Pregnancy Tracker.

Technically legal since the Alien Registration Act of 1940 ("Smith Act"), a xenophobic wartime policy targeting Japanese Americans carrying criminal and civil penalties (fines + imprisonment), with multiple instances of enforcement now. The legal basis for immigration raids was already there.

federal agents stealing children and sending them south. where have i heard about that before?
ICE kidnapped a 7th-grader with a pending asylum claim and spirited him out of state without notifying his parents, seemingly with the cooperation of the local police in Everett, MA.

The thing is: if you study what I study, this makes complete sense. Many eugenicists of the early 20th C. wanted the “right” people to have more babies! Limit or prohibit contraception to ensure more of the “right” babies, and use targeted sterilizations to ensure fewer of the “wrong” babies.
Ah yes, cutting teen pregnancy prevention while ending federal right to an abortion…
An HHS source says admin also RIFed entire Office of Population Affairs last night.
“Not a single staff person to run our nation's family planning program or the evidence-based teen pregnancy prevention program. The Office of Adolescent Health which nested within OPA functionally ceases to exist”

Imarah’s case shows how disability, poverty, and race converge under punishment.

Instead of care, the system imposes incarceration, debt, and criminal records—treating unmet needs as crimes rather than addressing root causes.
