No value, no villain, no vision. Sounds like the tagline for the earnings call of a collapsing appliance retailer

it sort of makes sense when you think about it. a homeowner with two kids in their late 30s to mid 40s is getting absolutely rammed - they bought near the RE peak, their mortgages are up due to interest rates, and their childcare is a second mortgage.
hilarious how Canadian politics is an alliance of boomers and zoomers against working age canadian conservatives
i mean this is insane and once again the like 40-50 bracket is the real problem

Giving Alberta an exemption to the Clean Electricity Standard means the policy is DOA.

There’s no way SK isn’t asking for the same thing, as they restart coal plants.

One Canadian economy? Nope. Likely scenario is no electricity regs at all, meaning we’re back to Harper-era policy.

Something that is easy to forget in all the "Carney is a political genius / Carney is a political naif" argle bargle is that climate policies matter. Environmental regulations matter. Getting rid of them may or may not achieve a political end — but it's guaranteed to have real-world implications.

Disappointing that he's continuing to sit as a liberal MP.

For a government that's slavering over getting a majority through floor crossings, that would be a -real- way to make this point.
This afternoon, I informed the Prime Minister of my decision to resign as Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, Minister responsible for Official Languages, Minister of Nature and Parks Canada, as well as his Lieutenant in Quebec.

You can find my full statement below.

disappointing that he's not leaving the liberal party over this
Trudeau-era environment minister Steven Guilbeault has published a resignation letter detailing the reasons for his departure from Carney's cabinet.

He directly cites today's MOU:

this dude is part of a government that just committed to ramming a pipeline through bc's north coast over the objections of basically everyone.

yeah, i don't think laurel's work is continuing.
I also wish to thank the other candidates who ran in Victoria, especially Laurel Collins. As MP, @laurelcollins.bsky.social championed important initiatives on climate change and intimate partner violence. We share many values and I commit to continuing that work in Parliament. 6/

It was sickening to see @lennynanzhou.bsky.social chastise @lucymaloney.bsky.social over showing emotion in the council chambers while talking about *130 people dying* during the heat dome. ABC making moves like this is ridiculous.

Showing emotion over needless death doesn't "cause division"
Budget amendment by ABC councillor Zhou would cut $8 million from capital budget for "Energy Retrofits for non-city buildings" and put it to filling potholes and other "core services".

Opposition councillors upset that it could cancel upgrades in buildings where people died in the 2021 heat dome.

ABC councillors saying that it's "unfortunate" people are linking closed baby change tables as being political, or part of the budget.

But it was a deputy city manager that explicitly raised removing them from high vandalism areas as part of cutting the budget for maintenance of civic facilities.

The party that brags about public safety just voted to scrap a program that keeps lower-income people safe during heat domes to fund sidewalk repairs that they should be funding anyway.

What a grotesque budget, and what a grotesque party. And we're not done yet. More cuts to come.

@jd-vance-1.bsky.social repent and submit to the pope
In newly leaked audio, Peter Thiel admits he urged JD Vance to ignore Pope Leo XIV on moral questions — including the ethical development of AI.

He goes even further, branding Leo “the woke American pope” and suggesting he’s a tool of the Antichrist.

Toronto deliberately killed apartment construction in the early 1970s, after a generation-long building boom.

Almost all of that housing was built by “the market.”

Repairing basic public amenities and infrastructure is our government's job. Local governments have dealt with MUCH bigger and more challenging vandalism issues than this one - copper from street lights for example - and come up with solutions better than "sorry, no more street lights"
two other quick points:
1) if people are setting plastic change tables on fire, perhaps replace them with metal ones.
2) $28,000 per year in repairs is around 0.05% of the $50 million annual budget increase requested by the VPD, and more cops will not address the root causes of vandalism

ok, but for real, i kind of like this sort of brand play

Dufferin Mall adopted the slogan "Really." back in the day, sort of owning its grungy and downmarket reputation - and I think it worked
"Kitimat: It's Not For Everyone."

There's a new #1 in the ranking of B.C. small town slogans.

it's never been clear to me why they got rid of the olympic line in the first place. like, the track and stops are there and it's a part of town that really needs east-west transit (and will need it MORE as the broadway corridor gets built out)
The City of Vancouver is considering private proposals to reactivate the Olympic Line with a new demonstration streetcar service.

If it goes ahead, the pilot project will begin sometime after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. #bcpoli #vanpoli #vanre
