Arts & crafts

Gulls and pigeons peck at slugs
Of lead.

Water floods the channel
Twice each day:

Metal into a matrix
Casting river shapes.

Some humans have
Cast type into the river.

What might one hope to catch
With all those letters?

Heavily
They fly down from the bridge.

Along the shingle,
Someone comes gleaning.

Ah geez, ruin my fun (and save my health), Shawn!

I love that it looks like it’s wearing a fur cap. An acorn that keeps warm!

I understand. I grew up in California and there are a million things I miss there all the time. (Colorado is beautiful but perhaps gets fewer museum shows.)

Darn it! Geography is totally unhelpful.

I just really loved Diane Keaton. RIP icon.

It’s up through the end of November, if that helps. The digitized elements are good! But being able to look closely in person, comparing an uncolored orange-ink print with one with the added blue-grey and darkly luminous contours of watercolor is just chef’s kiss.

Made my first visit to the William Blake exhibition at the Yale Center for British Art yesterday.
Photo of matted print with watercolor of the last page of Blake’s Jerusalem. Text at top and darkly colored surround of two figures in an embrace

I didn’t know about his work until now! ✨

Artist and teacher Keiji Shinohara demonstrating Japanese woodblock printing
Man at a table with tools, paper, inks. Behind him is a screen showing a close up of the items on the table, including a woodblock with a deep orange-red ink

What a lovely message from @bookshop.org. Glad to see them growing and growing. We CAN claim back what has been taken from us by these monstrous corporations, and it starts with things like this. Grab some books these next couple days!
