A thread on the baking of this pie. Follow along with me to see if this ends in disaster!

Here’s a giant can of fruit cocktail. When’s the last time I’ve had canned fruit cocktail? No idea. 1/x

Y'all, I'm about to make this for a party on Monday. Want to follow along?
Oooo should I make a couple of these for my faculty?

What a legend.
Oof. He was truly a master, from Rosenkrantz & Guildenstern to Arcadia to Leopoldstadt—just a lifetime of tremendous, thought-provoking, hilarious work. RIP. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Exciting and frightening! @profferguson.bsky.social's work is always so good.

The subject matter is harrowing but man, I love this show and I love this team. One of the few podcasts I ever bother to listen to.
Hey all-a new @99pi.org episode of the Constitution Breakdown is out! @romanmars.bsky.social & I talk about civil war prizes, boat strikes, and the war power. Plus, our special guest former DHS Sec Janet Napolitano! If you haven't tried it before, give it a listen- podcasts.apple.com/kh/podcast/c...

Thank you for this, @melissavandiver.bsky.social! Brian and I were getting drinks at Bar Redux today, and there were pamphlets detailing a lot of these tips, along with free whistles available for anyone who wants one.
I went to an "ojos" training tonight hosted by New Orleans DSA and Union Migrante and thought I'd pass on new things I learned:

1. Low/old info ICE sighting posts are wreaking havoc on immigrant communities. Basically, incomplete or old info is actively harmful (even if ppl have good intentions)

Yes, we will be going up against receptions. Those receptions are invariably boring, have terrible food, and garbage drinks. @brianlfrye.bsky.social will be mixing drinks, I'll be playing records, and you'll be hanging out somewhere that isn't the crappy old Hilton Riverside hotel.
Okay, y’all! @brianlfrye.bsky.social and I are planning our AALS party for the night of Jamuary 7! I hope you’ll cole see us!

My problem, too, is that there’s a bunch of terrible stuff out there that people have made all by themselves that they try to call "art." Illustration, sure. Tchotkes, sure. Not art.

What else did I make?

The soup, with some roasted pepitas, and tagine-style lamb neck, with a bit of butternut purée in the sauce. The couscous has sour cherries and some pepitas. Every bit of our #Shabbat dinner tonight has a squash element. #ShabbatShalom
Roasted it and used half to make a Bremen Kürbitsbrot. The rest, predictably, is going into soup.

It's so unsettling to see @brianlfrye.bsky.social pick up a whole kiwi to just bite into it, without peeling it or anything. He doesn't even rub the fuzz off. 🤢

Slowly rewatching Downton Abbey and ugh, I forgot how awful this was.

I just put a anti-glare and blue light screen protector on my laptop screen and OMG, it's amazing and a little weird to use a matte screen again. Remember when laptop screens were matte in the early 2000s?

For the love of Pete, just make your font bigger, people! Maybe fill your slide with something useful. Or if they’re so lacking in actual content,*don’t use any*.
Right. But why do Powerpoints need to have actual art to fill in the blank space? That's like hanging a Picasso in a Motel 8.

My point is simply that "filling space" is pretty much the ideal use for AI slop.
November 28, 2025 at 7:30 PM
One of you just DMed me all "well, what else am I supposed to put on a slide?"

I’m very direct with mine. Black background, BIG white text. Bullet points. Sometimes images of where the relevant facts of a case took place or sometimes statistical figures.
I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.
November 28, 2025 at 6:48 PM
Katie is spot on here. I recently saw a slide deck where the unrelated images took up more than half the slides and the text was illegible. Stop using garbage like Canva. Stop including all the language of the presentation on your slides. Stop reading your slides word for word. 1/2

I was carrying one of these cameras in this same bag yesterday and people were like "I love your camera purse; does it hold a lot?"

I had to repeatedly explain that it actually holds a working camera! Believe it or not, I’m at least a passable film photographer! 😂

Just found this big old butternut at the back of the fridge. Let’s figure out what to do with it!
