Still reeling from the news yesterday but my grandmother sadly passed away. Although I knew this day was coming and I'm sure she's in a better place, I'm still feeling numb and trying to mentally prepare myself for the service in a few days.

Nouvelle Vague was a film I liked fine. A fine ode to French New Wave with fine performances.

But Aubry Dullin who plays Jean-Paul Belmondo. That's a fiiinnnnnnnnneeee man.

I didn't think a pair of socks would emotionally wreck me. That is until I watched the newest HEATED RIVALRY episode.

There's a lot of talk about the steaminess of #HeatedRivalry, but there are more reasons to watch. Jacob Tierney's direction and the microexpression work of the actors is sublime — especially as mainstream American-produced streaming prioritizes "passive viewing."

Since I found out about its existence, I've been thinking of taking a trip to a local store that sells physical media.

Given the recent grim industry news, I see myself taking a trip there sooner rather than later.

Besides HEATED RIVALRY being a quality show, I'm also loving how its creator Jacob Tierney has leapt to the defense of the show's two leads, saying "Stop getting parasocial and speculating about their personal lives."

THE MASTERMIND is Kelly Reichardt's own meditative spin on the heist genre that's also her most accessible film yet and led by a sublime leading performance from Josh O'Connor.

Could've given Alana Haim a bit more to do but overall I really dug this one.

Although it's only the Critics' Choice shortlists with no voting overlap, since its performance there, I've come back around to the idea of F1: THE MOVIE maybe being this year's FORD V FERRARI/TOP GUN: MAVERICK where it gets Oscar-nominated in BP, some techs, and maybe Original Song.
