Looks like I missed #PortfolioDay a few days ago.

I've worked as a color artist for comics since 1991, primarily for Marvel, DC, Image, Vertigo, and Dark Horse, on Preacher, Daredevil, Batman, etc, etc.

Not looking for work.

In 2004, Parisian police were conducting a training exercise in the french catacombs and found, after moving past a desk and a tape playing audio of snarling dogs, a fully functional movie theater and bar. When they returned 3 days later, the equipment was gone, with a note: “Do not try to find us.”
Members of the force's sports squad, responsible
- among other tasks - for policing the 170 miles of tunnels, caves, galleries and catacombs that underlie large parts of Paris, stumbled on the complex while on a training exercise beneath the Palais de Chaillot, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower.
After entering the network through a drain next to the Trocadero, the officers came across a tarpaulin marked: Building site, No access.
Behind that, a tunnel held a desk and a closed-circuit TV camera set to automatically record images of anyone passing. The mechanism also triggered a tape of dogs barking, "clearly designed to frighten people off," the spokesman said.
Further along, the tunnel opened into a vast 400 sq metre cave some 18m underground, "like an underground amphitheatre, with terraces cut into the rock and chairs". There the police found a full-sized cinema screen, projection equipment, and tapes of a wide variety of films, including 1950s film noir classics and more recent thrillers. None of the films were banned or even offensive, the spokesman said.
A smaller cave next door had been turned into an informal restaurant and bar. "There were bottles of whisky and other spirits behind a bar, tables and chairs, a pressure-cooker for making couscous," the spokesman said.
"The whole thing ran off a professionally installed electricity system and there were at least three phone lines down there."
Three days later, when the police returned accompanied by experts from the French electricity board to see where the power was coming from, the phone and electricity lines had been cut and a note was lying in the middle of the floor: "Do not," it said, "try to find us."

I mostly listen while working. So, it's like radio. I catch a game here and there, at night, when I'm done working. Reminds me of my grandpa listening to baseball on radio in the 1970s when I was a kid, the voice urgently describing action you cannot see.

That might be too slow even for ADHD me! But I dig. There's some kind of steadiness to that slow stuff, some kind of reassurance. No fight or flight response. There's a joy in that.

Thanks, Ian. That's great. I'll be digging in soon and can't wait. Please feel free to tag and share your responses when the issues come out. Cheers!

Thanks, Richard. With that team, it's sure to be a blast.

I'll soon be coloring Batwoman. Back working with @gregrucka.com—one of my fave collaborators—again. It's like going home. And I'm looking forward to working with Dani.

ALT TEXT, people. Alt text. Multiple reasons. First, for accessibility. Second, so you're not VagueBooking BS. Just commit to it and follow through. I'm not perfect with it, but really try. Do it. Por favor, molim, prosim, please.

I can't PM you, but am having troubles with Kickstarter. I supported your book, but that system seems a mess. Can you PM me? Or reach out? I want to support, but I'm about done with trying to use that fucked up system. Ended up wasting a ton of my time on it. Help?

Just finished a writing workshop with @kathyfish.bsky.social. Brilliant fun, and I generated two new micro drafts that are worth revising to finish. All in 90 minutes. Check out Kathy's workshops when they next come up. You'll have fun, and do some writing. See you there!

Been watching baseball playoffs. NO SPOILERS. Here in Europe, I'm always a day behind.

People criticize baseball as boring, but that slowness is the main appeal. The way the world is—frenetic, panic-filled, depressing—that slowness is a salve, a meditation on minutiae that offers comfort.

Guillermo del Toro and Netflix have announced plans to form a new stop motion studio that will be both a studio and a school to push the medium forward and will develop plans to make Del Toro's next stop motion project after Pinocchio. I'm very hyped to see what this leads to!

Check it. For my first guess, I always use the previous day's answer, figuring that'll be a challenge and I'll never get it on the first guess. But with zero correct letters, and a not particularly strong start word, I nailed it in two. Woo hoo!

Reposting for the filthy American late night crowd. Go read my story. It's dark and sad and happy, with a bit of magical realism and a fairy tale feel.

I was SO busy this week, I missed my short story "Grown Boy" going up at Intrepidus Ink. Not tomorrow, like the video says, but live now.

It's flash, so takes only a few minutes to read. Go check it out.
