Welp, today's the day for me, the day I decided to test the hype and configure a coding assistant into my IDE. Didn't wanna get chopped, cooked, or mogged... Didn't wanna be unc, so trying to keep up with the times.

This is a true statistic. According to Minneapolis's Crime Dashboard, there's been one non-negligent homicide in the city so far this year. Add the two ICE executions, and you've got 2/3rds of the city's murders at the hands of ICE.

The general strike in MN should be the biggest trending story right now. It’s a model which should inform national protests moving forward. If you’re not taking notes, plz look inward. I hope to God we get our shit together and mobilize a national strike soon.

We're not in MN, but we're closing tomorrow in support of the communities and businesses there!

Please consider joining us. The general strike is simple: refuse to continue as normal when the federal government is unlawfully harassing, detaining, and shooting American citizens.

#MLA26 is this week?!

I'll be part of session 652: Student-Centered AI and DH Practices, talking about LLMs and writing pedagogy and what we can do to help students know what this technology is doing, really, tho. Hope to see you there!

I have a feeling that 2025-2026 will turn out to be a dyad in history. We won't be able to measure whatever the F 2025 was without also factoring in 2026. Idk if that relationship will be a compounding one, or one of revolution. But this NYE, I have the sense we're still in the midst of things.

Turns out, my 84-year old dad—who loathes modernity, technology, & sci fi—loves the Avatar movies. He doesn’t know why, he’s openly surprised by it. But my theory is that it’s because they’re actually westerns, coded with all the ridiculous and offensive stuff of that genre. It’s what he grew up on.

We're at the point where we can accurately assess the impacts of tariffs & trade wars on our business. It's not good. At Evening Land Books, we had 75% fewer international orders this year compared to last year... And that's in a year where we increased the number of books in stock. Thanks, Trump!
Well, I guess now you've got to add "the ability to navigate the uncertainties of an international trade war" to the list of requisite skills and knowledge to be a bookseller

Unpopular opinion: sometimes, small businesses actually suck. Sometimes they're managed by crotchety people with no customer service skills or interest in doing a good job. Yet they still expect the favor of conscientious consumers who want to support small businesses in general. No bueno!
