i have posted before that i think you are an artist before you ever make a painting or song or book. i understand it is a unique perspective and that is okay, but i am thinking on it again after seeing post from buckaroo @scalzi.com specifically how it relates to my perspective on grief and death
Proposition: You become a writer the moment you write, a musician the moment you make music, a painter the moment you paint, etc. You become an artist the moment you find your own voice as a writer/musician/painter/etc.

If you can play a solo strictly from memory, with none of your own personality in it, then I don't consider it worthwhile. Parrots can "talk", you know.
