"Different govt agencies necessarily collect information to provide essential services or collect taxes, but the danger comes when the govt begins pooling that data & using it for reasons unrelated to the purpose it was collected."

Like, handing it to #Palantir which then sells it, "repurposed."

The hard truth for anyone filming wrongdoers is that the same tech that can hold the state accountable can also make ordinary people more visible to the state.

A researcher who studies data governance, digital tech & the US federal government with advice on how to protect yourself.

No pay wall.
Filming ICE is legal but exposes you to digital tracking – here’s how to minimize the risk
Federal agents have pepper-sprayed, tackled and detained people recording their actions. If you post your recordings of agents, you also risk the feds tracking you and those around you.

Las net hetzelfde in betoog van een professor: "Stop met me AI-gegenereerde emails te schrijven. Ik begin te lezen en uiteindelijk blijkt het allemaal onzin."

When an authoritarian regime fears that it will lose control, it ramps up violence to emote strength it doesn't have.

Don't fall for it.

They are weak - and their loss of control definitively shows it.

I’m not a lawyer but killing someone while unlawfully beating them sounds an awful lot like felony murder.
So I watched the shooting video frame by frame and it looks like:

1) They were beating a struggling man with batons

2) His jacket opened revealing a gun in his waistband or lower back

3) The agent in gray grabbed the gun and was walking away

4) THEN the other agents shot the man in the back

Bleken dat toch geen hooverboards uit Back To The Future.

The report is pretty damning for the new Digital Omnibus and rejects the majority of suggested changes to GDPR.

It expands in great detail on why NOYB accepts individual articles, suggests improvements to them or flat out rejects them.

it's really good that Oracle bought TikTok, a business that only loses money, at a time when it took on $56bn+ in debt and $240bn in lease obligations for GPUs to rent to OpenAI, a company that will run out of money. This could all have the funniest ending ever

"by default, BitLocker recovery keys uploaded to MS cloud"

This totally relieves me of the last shred of doubt I had after I had wiped a brand new, never booted Win11 Pro from a machine today and installed Debian on that machine.
Doubt if I should have made a backup of the virgin Windows, that was.
