#TCMParty I do like this movie. Never heard of it before seeing it here on TCM a few years ago.

#TCMParty I’ve got “Call Her Savage” on TCM - fascinating movie - am I the only one watching it?

@velshi.com It was mentioned in the 3rd hour of your show today that the cost of child care equals the after tax income of many employees. Something I have noticed is that women are working for benefits, while their husbands are self-employed or working at higher paying jobs that have no benefits.

#TCMParty Oh no! Shanghai Lol’s going to be in my head for a week! (But I like this movie anyway - I love Cagney in a musical.)

#TCMParty That speech at the end of Great Dictator would be useful today.

#TCMParty I first saw this movie many years ago in a film course. I got why it was important historically and technically, but it made no sense and as a movie, it was simply weird. Now that I can see the whole movie, oh! It DOES have a plot! So it makes sense (increasingly so) but it’s still weird.

#TCMParty Drew Barrymore once said on a TCM interview that she likes the gentle touch with which John would pat Lionel or put his hand on his back.

#TCMParty This is such an inspired film. I always think of poor Jack Lemmon in The Apartment, sitting down at the tv to eat dinner and delighted to see it’s coming on, then gives up because there are so many ads.

#TCMParty I read the book this movie is based on years ago, and later saw the movie. I thought at the time that it was a pretty faithful rendition. The Titanic fascinated me because there was a woman in town who had lost her husband when they were a young married couple, and he was trapped. So sad.

#TCMParty Bye Bye Birdie - the worst film version of a musical play EVER.

@jonathancapehart.bsky.social “ And I could be Santa Clause.” HAHAHA!!! That is great. That’s about the level of their explanation.

#TCMParty Okay - I’d HEARD years ago that it ends with her petting a horse. So it did.

#TCMParty The backgrounds in the scenery here are fantastic.

“While driving away, agents hurled pepper spray and flash-bang grenades into the crowd.”

Gratuitous. They could have just left. But they assaulted the crowd just because they like causing suffering & pain.

Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

BREAKING: ‘This hurts’: UNL eliminates 4 programs despite faculty, student pleas
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln eliminates the Earth and atmospheric sciences 8-0, educational administration 7-1, statistics 7-1, textiles, merchandising and fashion design 7-1 programs.

#TCMParty They say actors chew the scenery … but director von Sternberg’s doing a pretty good job of it here.

#TCMParty They were so proud of how they filmed the railroad yard scene of wounded men - supposedly Margaret Mitchell said after seeing it that if the Confederates had that many men in Atlanta they would have won the war …

#TCMParty Chinatown is one movie that could have been made today.

#TCMParty Interesting - those 1915 evening gowns bear little resemblance to the dresses in Titanic and Downton Abbey. Or what I would have thought.

#TCMParty Holy bejeebers - the cost of those outfits! $600 for an evening gown in 1915!!

#TCMParty - I like the actors, I love that the brothers did this, I loved Michelle Pfeiffer - but it was too depressing in the end. Saw it when it first came out - then wouldn’t watch it again because I thought the ending was too depressing. It will be a while before I watch it a third time.

#TCMParty No, Michelle, he DOESN’T look like sh*t - wait a few years, when he’s the Dude. Tho it works on him.

#TCMParty My Dad took me to see Lili when I was very young (in fairness he assumed puppets = children’s movie) and it scared the bejeebers out of me - but having seen it as an adult, it’s one of my most beloved.

@maddow.msnbc.com I don’t care what you call MDNBC - just tell me whether it will still be on DirecTV or are we going to be playing Bundling Wars?
