While in residence, Marlo will be exploring these themes in a myriad of manifestations, ranging from (deep) listening sessions, live-streamed panel (with Sounding Out!) and performance, all in accordance with the theme of Dreaming and Listening as a Form of Activism.

Project aims to create a contemporary sonic adaptation of T’nalak weavings of the T’boli people of the Philippines and create decolonial Deep Listening scores in resonance with that process.’

T’nalak weaving is a practice by women referred to as “dream weavers,” as designs are sourced from dreams.

Brought up a concern to someone and they said they didn’t want to fight. I said “doesn’t have to be a fight and if you agree we can discuss it. “They snapped back “it’s only not a fight if I agree with you.”

Don’t even know what to do with that response. But it literally broke my brain.

My ❤️ with Filipinx Canadians after the violence at Lapu-Lapu Day in Vancouver BC. The traumatic story of the Vietnamese man who killed the 11 Filipinos from ages 5-65 is so tragic as well.

All so overwhelming. Mixed feelings bubble.

For real…flying back to the USA as a outspoken political brown person with naturalized citizen parents AND being autistic is looking HIGHLY unsafe. But that arts funding is gonna dry up faaaaaaaassssst and my work is about liberation and getting it out often gets people thinking… 🫤😓🙏🏽

Called to schedule a massage asking what modalities were used. Thai massage is painful with my mobility challenges and popular here. They defensively stated “We’re not Thai.” I stated “I meant modality not ethnicity.”
B/c I have a “white” passing voice, I had to hear anti-Asian microaggressions. 🤬
