Serendipity indeed as I’ve been rewatching 2001 over this past week - tonight I’m on the last third of the movie, and that memorable sequence which was equally memorable in Clarke’s novel…

Remembering Arthur C. Clarke on the anniversary of his birthday: 16 December 1917. The father of the communications satellite and author of books such as “The Fountains of Paradise,” “Imperial Earth” and “Rendezvous with Rama,” and of course “2001: A Space Odyssey” co-written with Stanley Kubrick.

My latest festive artwork encouraging everyone in the international space industry to be mindful about adding to the already problematic issue of space junk orbiting our planet. The more we put up, the more dangerous the problem becomes. #KeepSpaceTidy #DigitalArt #SciArt

One of my artworks is gracing the cover of the new issue of Odyssey, the culture e-magazine of the British Interplanetary Society. I even have an article inside of my journey as a space artist.

For day 8 of #ArtAdventCalendar, I present this animation I did about three years ago, showing a flight through a type of space colony called a Stanford Torus.

I enjoy creating digital art (as well as analogue) but I have to do it by hand, piece by piece, deleting if I get something wrong, just as if I’m using an actual pencil or pen & ink. This is the process of the creation of my Circuit Gollum, drawn using Adobe Fresco. #DigitalArt

I do enjoy creating cover art for books, e-magazines, and periodicals. Collecting elements from a story and putting them together in a balanced and artful, sometimes playful, way is like solving a puzzle. And I really enjoy a good puzzle.

I did a new version of the short video, Eagles over 2001 Moonscape.

* Fixed some minor technical issues.
* Better render quality.
* Brightened stars a little
* Lowest Eagle now passes behind foreground rock.
* Music added "Cloudless" by Cousin Silas.

Superb!
Getting stuck into the rebuild of the 2001 Orion, checking the old model.

The geometry is a GREAT fit to my references. So far I upscaled the texture maps, and killed a few bad polygons.

It clearly needs lots of bump maps replaced by geometry and normal maps though...

My old painting of a brown dwarf.
This view represents a moon of a brown dwarf being lit up by the sun-like star, which is second component of this star-brown dwarf system.

The "Discovery" from 2001 at one point had tension cables along the spine, and large cooling vanes, (required for the nuclear engines).

Here's my take on that
