Patron saint of chaos. Reviewing books on Asia. Responsible for the growing global awareness of Indonesia. Probably the only heterodox in Asia.
Interestingly the vending machine is an older tech and arrived in Japan 1-2 decades before the 3.5 floppy disk.

Also, I've bought snacks from vending machines in Indonesia with my phone, and I wonder if it's the case as well in Japan or if coins are still commonly used there.

Out of the "who hates who" and "which burn books" gossips for a while.

On Halloween a female Indo YTer put up a picture of a Japanese murdered girl as a decoration. After she poorly apologized, some Japanese grumbled about barbaric Indonesians & Indonesians replied about WW2 war crimes.

Now Japanese X are uploading videos of rude Chinese tourists, the classic spat.

What is your favourite song about the rain?

In the late 1990s I pondered if it was London, Ontario or London, UK. Might be UK (Nova is Bermudan).

Just checked Jak Int Lit Fest. 1 year after boycott and 'zionist' hunt, this year fest goes smooth. Red theme overall (with gov sponsorship, but not inc Frankfurt Book Fair it seems), also featuring a certain Mr. Lowenstein of Australia.
Illuminating article by the tireless @nicolelampert.bsky.social. Brings to mind my interview with Letty Cottin Pogrebin: the ugly hostility she & other Jewish feminists faced at the Year of the Woman UN conference when they passed the resolution that Zionism = racism.

This was the first Lush single I knew, and the britpop music and video (the heteropessimistic lyrics might be a part of it) broke the band. Years later I was aware of their shoegazing and in retrospect, shoegazing was bad for my health.

More seriously, Ottawa is hoping for more TV revenue, tourists from Europe, grants and sponsorships, and yea, trade deals. The article states that EV is unpopular in Canada, unlike Oz.

It just seems like... there are big issues for Jewish literature at the moment, for Jewish authors whatever their politics or if indeed they have any to speak of. Which is maybe why I'm so frustrated by a Big Article promising to speak to that and then not.
