SOME ANIMALS ARE MORE EQUAL THAN OTHERS
The SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefit is about $6 per person per day. Households with no income get about $8-$9 a day.
EACH Congressman has a daily limit of $79 for reimbursement of meals and incidental expenses in Washington, D.C.

Good morning. A reminder that one of the reasons you see an uptick in “behaviors” during adolescence is because they are appropriately wanting more independence and space, and are seeking it by using old behaviors.
Give them more space, please. Teach them skills. Let them fly.

My current teaching position involves paraprofessionals. There are more adults than children in my classroom. I don’t play well with adults. It took two years, but my team is rock solid.
But my first year? I got bullied until I started treating my staff like my former AP kids and taught autism 101
hot take: Autistic people who take to leadership roles often engage w/ their position w/ the “servant leadership” approach, viewing their duty as being to the people that report to them, raising up peoples’ strengths to create successful autonomous teams

& the few of us skilled at that get promoted

As a human growing up with undiagnosed #Autism and #EhlersDanlosSyndrome I both loved and hated school. At the end of undergrad, I chose education, to no one’s surprise but my own. A natural teacher, fierce reform advocate. Teaching autistic kids is an amazing job!
ADHD 101
People with ADHD are often drawn to high-stimulation tasks, which can spark creativity and innovative thinking.

They know. They do not care. They know about the Epstein files. They do not care. They are governed by their fear and not their reason.

If I have given you nothing else, I have given you the gift of learning with Ze Frank and his friend Creepy Dave. Because you never knew adult humor belonged in nature video.

I love my staff. We took my purple and yellow minions to collect sugar, we did crafts, we had ZERO issues and much fun.

Accommodations written into all of my students IEPs:
1) 5-10 minute sensory breaks as needed (walks, heavy work, coloring, dough/putty, music/video)
2) Access to sensory items during work (ear defenders/white noise, masking devices for text, stuff to squeeze, pick, stroke on desk.
3) Naps on demand

There is a truck parked on the street idling. My body and skull are vibrating. I would like to scream now.

CW: traumatic life rn

General anesthesia screws my circadian rhythm up. So grateful for outpatient procedures that allow you the comfort and quiet of home.
While the PET scan looked great, the surgeon told Randy it looks like nonsmallcell lung cancer. So early, it’s curable. Pathology by Friday.

I wonder how much paid leave for cancer patients that would provide? My sister’s treatments will last forever. Just the diagnostic process is going to burn through most of my annual sick days. I have short term disability, thank goodness…sister was ineligible.

Thank you everyone who attended an event yesterday, including my 84 year old dad, who attended in Florida, repping for his wife and two daughters who couldn’t attend in person due to dementia and cancer related stuff.
I hope you felt our energy supporting you as we watched.

I also read abstracts of current research, articles when they are free.
I work every single day with #AutismParents and we learn best together.

I will continue to argue that because of the rigidity most public schools have about rules, attendance, seating arrangements, lighting, noise, and other sensory issues, inclusion isn’t always best.
Compensating for overload all day is exhausting.
I *love* working in an autism school.

My HFA students in foster care who receive a diploma are expected to negotiate their own care at age 18. They receive no assistance once they age out unless they can ask for it.
There are a few parents in my replies.

Look, I have an autistic kid, too. Don’t talk down to me like I don’t understand your struggle. But I also understand that autistic kids have their own needs apart from their parents, which should be centered in discussions about their supports or therapies.
When politicians discuss autism, pay attention to who they say they’re helping. You’ll find it’s almost always “families” or “parents of kids with autism,” rather than #autistic people ourselves. Their primary concern is the burden we supposedly impose on others. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
