I've learned that if someone's default reaction when I say "I like this thing" is "This other thing is better", I can just ignore that person and continue to talk about the thing I like. I like liking things.

Just because there are events that aren't told to you the player or you "have to watch/read outside media" to learn more doesn't mean the story is lazy or incomplete. It could well mean the writers had a specific vision for the pacing/plot and they're committed to it. They know how to limit scope.

I love when video games take place in a world that exists outside of the main characters. I don't just mean random background events, but entire story that happens outside the protagonists' circle and the player may never get to know exactly what happened. You're just one part of a bigger story.

I don't see this talked about too much in streaming. I think one of the most important things is to remind yourself that yourself is that you won't be everyone's cup of tea AND THAT IS OK! There are people out there who will love and celebrate you for being you.
