Have human relationships with other humans! Talk to your parents, your partner’s parents, some friends. Observe other parents in the wild. Use your instincts. Read a book. Ask your pediatrician. Wing it. JFC, these soul-suckers are trying to get us to abdicate all that makes us human.

Sam Altman: "I cannot imagine figuring out how to raise a newborn without ChatGPT."

This is a wild ripple effect of AI....
My colleague points out here that possibly one in seven requests to our library now may be assisted by LLMs.

When those point to fictional documents, that's a huge staff time drain. There's often no quick way to check if an undigitized primary source doc exists beyond physically pulling some boxes.

Hey, if you’re a Seattle/WA author with a book coming out next year and you have a firm pub date, please let me know for potential inclusion in the Seattle Times’s 2026 book preview. (Space is limited but I’ll do my best.)

Drop a link either in replies or at my email: [email protected].

I was chatting with a woman in the NOLA book fair for a few minutes before we introduced ourselves, and it turned out to be @djvorreyer.bsky.social who our mutual poetry friend @rachelnm.bsky.social had told me to be sure to meet! Kismet!
6 readers means lots of intros! Our first three readers are @rebeccaslehmann.bsky.social & @magpiedays.bsky.social, both of whom I met at NOLA Poetry Festival this year, & @dustinbrookshire.bsky.social, online poetry pal for years who I will finally meet IRL at AWP!

This seems bad.
Exclusive: The U.S. Coast Guard will no longer classify the swastika, nooses and the Confederate flag as hate symbols.

The military service drafted a new policy that classifies them as “potentially divisive.”

Delighted to have a poem up this week in Psaltery & Lyre! Alt text for the photo appearing with the link: a close-up photo of a small wicker basket filled with a variety of wild mushrooms.
"He told me I needed wild mushrooms / dried myself in the oven overnight."

I got my first book club spam - purportedly from an Australian organization - last week. Because it wasn't the standard "book promoter" spam I read it through and did spend a minute wondering if it was a real thing but then I just deleted it.
🚨 ATTN Writers, Book Club Scams

For new writers: Money should always flow TOWARDS the writer. NEVER pay for promo.
I've been getting roughly one of these emails a week for the last month. I contacted the real club to give them the heads-up (who confirmed the obvious scam) so I feel I can share

Also, like, these people are just sitting there? Reading? That's like calling sports fans performative for attending matches.
Other than it is weird that people are just taking photos of strangers, is there something inherently wrong with being a "performative" reader?
Oh fuck off
