Required reading. I always feel a little disappointed when I open an email to find that she’s gone canoeing instead of filing another piece for me to read (not that I really begrudge her her leisure time). She is brilliant.

I’m no expert on the world of alternate and open tuning, but yes, sort of. Keith Richard explored this further by taking the low E off his most famous Telecaster, tuning the rest of the strings to form a G chord, and happily slid his finger up and down the neck for perfect chords.

I went in and out of Berlin for work for about six years. I don’t think I used more than about a dozen words of German. People only had to look at me to start talking in English….

The zeal of the convert I suppose. This is not to dismiss the significance of his comments but do they detract from his earlier music? Nor would I argue that the fatwa on Rushdie is/was in any way justified.
