New OWA!

What started off as a comparison between BioShock and BioShock Infinite turned into a lot of me struggling to try to figure out what Ken Levine was doing with Infinite, other than expressing VERY BAD politics. My conclusion was not positive!

Protip: when you make your shitty skynet jokes on every article about AI you're doing exactly what the tech companies want: further spreading the myth that these things can do way more than they can do.

Also, "higher ed" is no narrow thing. It's a broad class like "mammals." A bat and a human are both mammals. Bob Jones U and Harvard and ISU and community colleges and small liberal arts schools are all higher ed.
I will continue to push that even when people say they have lost trust in higher ed, it doesn't mean it's for the same reasons and rebuilding trust with one community could exacerbate issues with another.

Quantic Dream announces they are developing a competitive multiplayer game

Star Wars: Eclipse development still continues

blog.quanticdream.com/writing-a-ne...
For over 28 years, Quantic Dream has been pushing the boundaries of interactive storytelling. With award-winning titles like Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human, more than 25 million players worldwide have shared the journeys of Ethan Mars, Jodie Holmes, Kara, Markus and Connor, with us.

Since 2018, we have entered a new phase of growth and innovation. We doubled the size of the team, bringing together talents from all over the world united by the same passion for creativity. We opened a new studio in Montreal, moved into new headquarters in Paris, built the next generation of our proprietary technology, and became our own publisher.

After years as a single-project studio, we also decided to take a new step. Multiple teams are fully dedicated to crafting the next generation of great games, including something very different, a competitive multiplayer experience, born from the same spirit of curiosity and creativity that has always defined us.

This new title may surprise our fans as it is very different from what we have done so far. But taking risks, challenging ourselves, exploring new ways of playing and telling stories, and attempting what seems impossible, has always been part of our DNA.

We also know how demanding it is to create something new. Earning the trust of players, standing out in such a competitive space, and introducing fresh concepts is incredibly challenging. And since we have no legacy in this genre, we know we have everything to prove — which is why your support and feedback will be essential. Together, we believe we can create something truly unique.

Of course, development of Star Wars: Eclipse continues, and we are eager to share more with you in the future.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all our fans around the world for playing our games year after year, for their kind words whenever we meet, for their patience and encouragement.

Before you buy Girl Scout cookies you should know they support transgender girls and reject donations from anti-transgender organizations. Then buy a couple more boxes

part of why I keep harping on "transition doomerism is literally just body image issues going unchecked using dysphoria as an excuse to deflect from all concerns" is that I keep seeing transition doomer girls post selfies and looking like extremely normal women. Just incredibly normal-looking.

ok listen. i know no big platform is actually "safe" atm. Bluesky is run by shitheads, this place sucks too.

that being said, i need to fucking implore you, Twitter's unsafety is on a whole other level. there's "not safe" and then there's the actual wolf's den.
Long story short, an actual Nazi doxxing ring. Enough people reported them that they went away for like 12 hours and then Elon personally brought them back. The site is dead. If you’re still on there, go lock your account right now
what even happened on the other site this time

That’s $5 billion more than the entire annual USAID budget. All to one country. To rescue one friend of the president’s.
Trump found another $20 BILLION to give to Argentina, totaling their bailout to $40 BILLION.

Yet we can’t afford to prevent millions of Americans from losing their healthcare.

Shame.

I click on the quest-giver, their glowing exclamation point hovering like a beacon.

"We've decided to move ahead with other adventurers," it says. "Good luck in your future endeavors."

I check the walkthrough. Apparently you need to be Level 10 to get a Level 1 quest from them.

This game sucks.
Stream is up and gameplay will begin at the top of the hour!
CORE SET 2021: EXTRAS

Actually not that much here.
Grim Tutor (illus. Antonio José Manzanedo)

Blood splashes on the page of this tome and it forms patterns and symbols.

(I'm still shocked they reprinted this card. But that's not related.) Island (M21#310, illus. Jonas De Ro)

I believe this is supposed to be on Dominaria, since it's part of a set of cards related to Teferi, a Dominarian planeswalker. There's an interesting structure in the middle of this inlet on this island; it looks a bit like that part of the archway from that one Theros island, and water is falling out from seemingly the inside of the rock pillar. Rin and Seri, Inseparable (illus. Leesha Hannigan)

Not as good as some other printings, but just a nice picture of a dog and a cat sitting together on top of a hill. Basri, Devoted Paladin (illus. Jason Rainville)

This isn't really the best artwork of Basri, but pickings are slim and the dude deserves at least some showcasing. Kind of a pity he ended up being basically unused by WotC, then got desparked at the end of the Phyrexia story... meaning he was a Planeswalker who was desparked before he even showed up in any story proper. Thanks, Wizards.
Okay, I can't lie, CORE SET 2021 has one of my favorite pieces of art in the game in recent years in it. Right at the beginning of the list for us.
Rambunctious Mutt (illus. Campbell White)

Big goofy domestic dog has made a mess of one of the wizard's work rooms and even is chewing on a wand or something like it's a bone. Needless to say, the wizard is displeased while the dog has an incredibly silly look on its face. At least someone's having a good time here!

This set was when they finally changed "hound" to "dog" and really started to cement that you could have more... mundane dogs, I guess. Sublime Epiphany (illus. Lindsey Look)

Like a more advanced version of seeing inside someone's brain, this woman's face is removed to show a complicated, multi-stage maze which looks like a path for water to flow. The figure is submerged up to her neck, with glowing blue fish swimming around her and birds and butterflies around. It's... more representational, basically. Mazemind Tome (illus. Randy Gallegos)

A hooded mage hiding their face behind a tome, on the cover of which is a glowing image of a brain... placed right about where theirs would be. Village Rites (illus. Bud Cook)

An ominous scene that would fit right at home on Innistrad with maybe some clothing changes; it's a cult's human sacrifice, from the victim's perspective, taken just moments before the victim's death.

IKORIA: LAIR OF BEHEMOTHS: BONUS

Ikoria had some more comic-book-ish Mutate showcase cards and planeswalkers, and Godzilla crossover cards. Yes.

In retrospect I should be angrier about those. Aren't they sort of like the first Universes Beyond in some way? But I can't be mad at Godzilla!
Porcuparrot (illus. Denis Medri)

Already a powerfully ridiculous creature, this rendition of the porcuparrot (which, you guessed it, is a porcupine with red-and-blue coloring like the traditional parrot and a bird's head) looks even more ridiculous, but while maintaining at least some air of danger. This thing is mad as hell! Mothra, Supersonic Queen (illus. Nick Southam)

I forget if Mothra is based on a specific kind of moth or not. Anyway, it's Mothra flying through the skies over a busy city. Godzilla, King of the Monsters (illus. Antonio José Manzanedo)

Godzilla breathes a blast of blue energy down at a wrecked building while a pair of helicopters keep him in their sights.

This card is interesting, historically speaking. It is a reskin of a card named "Zilortha, Strength Incarnate" - but the card was not printed with that name in cardboard until Commander Masters. Until that point, you could only get Godzilla, King of the Monsters. (Zilortha kind of looks like a low-budget bootleg of 'zilla, so it's fair, in some way. I think...) Beast (Token) (illus. Aaron Miller)

This creature resembles an elk or something along those lines, but with tiger coloration, additional horns coming either out from around the back of the head or along the side of the neck, and an exceptionally long tail that ends in a larger end covered in spikes like some sort of ankylosaur or similar. In a weird way, this is the platonic ideal of the "beast token;" it's a nebulous "big animal" that could be defined in enough ways that it's simpler to just call it a "beast." However, this eccentric mashup makes it look very unique.
IKORIA: LAIR OF BEHEMOTHS

Hey! Do you enjoy some particularly bizarre megafauna?

Okay, how do you feel about power creep? ESPECIALLY for Commander, because that started feeling some serious shit happen starting in 2020.
Vulpikeet (illus. Leesha Hannigan)

I know you've heard of a flying fox, but I'm pretty sure it's not as literal as this. This is a fox with bird wings. Shark Typhoon (illus. Caio Monteiro)

I appreciate the audacity of them just making a sharknado card. At this point, I think Sharknado has rebounded from being tedious back to its original status: funny but mind-bogglingly stupid. Almighty Brushwagg (illus. Dmitry Burmak)

A bunch of animals look with shock and awe at this confident, vicious-looking brushwagg. A brushwagg, by the way, is something I can best describe as a cross between an armadillo or porcupine and a dry bush or perhaps a rather dense tumbleweed. Brushwaggs became one of Magic's most joked-about creature types, as the only one that exists exists in the Mirage block and it looks profoundly silly; it also has a unique creature type but probably doesn't need to. Due to their rarity, bizarre looks, bizarre name, and just generally being weird little guys, they've become a meme even inside the game itself; at least one card that has an effect based on how many creature types a creature has cannot target brushwaggs in order to prevent creatures who have literally all creature types from getting massive buffs. Lutri, the Spellchaser (illus. Lie Setiawan)

There they are. Mx. Prebanned in Commander themself. Being honest, if it weren't for the Companion ability, Lutri would be okay but probably not top-shelf. Unfortunately, since you are all but guaranteed to be able to use Lutri as a companion unless you are playing Persistent Petitioners or Seven Dwarves (or maybe something else I've missed...), it is a complete freebie for any commander deck featuring at least blue and red. And those don't need more free shit!

Anyway, Lutri is a blue otter crackling with electricity, charging a spell of red lightning.
this run of dead estate got SO LAGGY. it was kinda hilarious but it sure padded things out!
