On Tuesday, as @lucyannunwin.bsky.social and I were having lunch, a poorly sounding plane passed overhead.

An hour later we read that it had made an emergency landing near the next village.

This morning I cycled over and went to see it. It was surprisingly intact!

I've had my shoulder to this project for 6+ years at this point. I'm terrified about the response (or worst of all, lack of response). I'm not sure what I even am once it is out there.

I've seen the birdwatching documentary. It filled my brain and my heart. I cannot recommend it enough.

It is free on YouTube. Try the first five minutes, if you like that then you'll like the rest 👍
"Listers: A Glimpse Into Extreme Birdwatching" might be one of the best movies I've seen this year, and for some reason, it's not on Letterboxd. Seriously... watch it:

Just realised the guy with old military vehicles outside his house who has flown an English flag for as long as we’ve lived here on a massive flagpole in his garden has recently taken it down and replaced it with the flag of Hertfordshire.

Comforting to know the proper flag guys know what’s up atm.

I keep seeing generative AI being used on stuff for kids, like maybe they won’t notice, or it doesn’t matter as much. The opposite is true. Anyone who’s created anything for kids knows you should make more effort for them, not less.

The criticism isn't of the children, it is that most of the books are *old*. By age 11 they're only choosing from what is offered to them, it isn't entirely "free choice" until they can take themselves to a bookshop/library. What books does their school own? What does their teacher recommend?
It’s *so depressing* to see some people criticising a list of books chosen by 11 year olds as their favourites.

Let children choose what they want to read!

Adults dictating to children what they should and shouldn’t read, is a huge part of the reading crisis today.

We should do better!

Would be interested to see if on ANY question about ANYTHING Reform and Conservative voters are the lowest "Don't Know" responders!

Feel like it's a defining Reform characteristic to always have an opinion and never admit doubt! 🤣
With three of Britain's most senior police officers calling for a tougher line on use of the drug, what do Britons think?

Police aren't tough enough on cannabis: 30%
Police are too tough: 23%
About right: 27%

Hurray for Amulet, but still depressing that the books 11 year olds have access to are all older then them!

Really hope the #NationalYearOfReading involves some heavy spending on just NEW BOOKS in schools!
