The “Oops, protein powder is full of lead” thing would explain so much.
lucindacatchlove.bsky.social
Also, all that extra protein can strain out kidneys and most people who have kidney disease don't know about it until it gets pretty sure.
lucindacatchlove.bsky.social
This. Most of us don't feel bad because we're malnourished and most of us already consume enough or too much protein.

i feel like this story is particularly important right now, because protein-maxxing is *so* in vogue. before working on this, i believed i was woefully protein deficient

it turns out that's just a myth that has been floating around for decades—the average american gets more than enough protein!!

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

I see you're one of those men who have made hating bike lanes and owning a car your whole personality. Good luck with that. 🤣

1. Yesterday, the press gave Gavin Newsom favorable coverage for signing pro-LGBTQ+ bills.

Little noticed, however, was that he vetoed one of the most important ones: a bill allowing trans people 12 month HRT stockpiles, protecting them from federal threats.

The bill would have allowed transgender people to maintain a safe supply of medication in the era of government crackdowns on care.

Yeah, maybe these "innocent bystanders" might want to talk to their president about it and not whine about Canadian boycotts.

Thanks for standing up for the bike lanes that keep so many of us safe during our commutes. It also makes our neighborhoods friendlier, even with most motorists I find (except the ones who hate and are hostile to other people).

Ferrandez isn't relevant anymore and it's hardly "guerilla bike lanes" but very well used infrastructure that benefits everyone in the Plateau and the rest of the city, including those of us not rich enough to own cars.

California just banned employers from forcing workers to pay a debt, fee, or penalty to leave their job.

Bosses have increasingly been trapping workers with debts incurred in training and other exploitative fees.

Now that's illegal in the nation's biggest state.

This presents an organizing opportunity for students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, actually EVERYONE AFFILIATED IN ANY WAY WITH ANY COLLEGE IN THE UNITED STATES, to get involved with the project of making sure your college doesn't sign this thing.

Take a cue from an inspiring group of students:

We now enter the most dangerous phase, but also the one with the greatest opportunity. The U.S. has thousands of colleges, some run by red state governments, so it's too much to hope that NONE sign up for this federal takeover.

But it matters WHO signs up. The administration is taking a risk.

One point that really has to be considered with all of this ridiculous talk about Nobel Peace Prizes is that millions of people remain under a violent and dehumanizing military occupation, even with this newfound "peace".

You may not hear much about it -- but the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR) is staging a four day event on the national Mall in Washington, DC. I wrote a bit about it today in the context of wider NAR mobilizations in Brazil. @religiondispatches.org 🧵

This is kind of silly because cis het men also need to liberate themselves, feminism and queer liberation are for everyone, that's the only way to break the hierarchies and systemic oppression of us all. Nobody will be free until we're all free. Our oppressors want hierarchies of oppression.
