Live near Manchester (UK), work on citizen-led/co-op approaches to the energy transition as a way to tackle climate change. Interested in politics, urban design, anarchism, co-ops and football (not necessarily in that order).
A good explanation of how the budget turned out as it did. There's the overwhelming sense that these discussions on direction should have been had in opposition and the hard choices made an implemented in last year's budget.

Huge respect to the papers for finding both an 88 year old worried about the tax bill on her 6 bedroom Kensington house and a 20 year old fretting about only being able to save £12k a year tax free.
Top work all around. These are not easy case studies to find.

This looks like it will be a really great night in Whitby...
Join me and the weird Whitby lot for a very festive Back Of The North Wind! These nights have been an absolute delight all year - songs, stories and all kinds of impromptu oddness with such a nice vibe. Be lovely to see anyone and everyone on Fri 12th Dec, when I'll be opening my Box of Delights...

I refuse to believe there actually will ever be a budget, just an endless, daily series of contradictory leaked stories of new taxes, rebates, reversals, extending from here to eternity...
Another day, another piece of pre budget briefing/leaking. At this rate Reeves will be able to issue her own Anthology of outtakes/alternative mixes. Rachel Reeves decides against cutting VAT on energy bills in Budget - on.ft.com/4oU3O58 via @FT

This is clearly a spiral of descent for Labour, who consistently choose clamping down on immigration over economic security leading poorer economic outcomes
If people become insecure, we find they’re three times more likely to desert Labour than if they become more concerned about immigration. Around one-third of Britons felt economically insecure as of April 2025.

Focusing on immigration is a ‘red herring’ when financial security is so foundational.

You have to feel for Putin, all these people and countries conspiring against him to make him start this war, poor guy.
Trump just went on a long rant about the Russo-Ukraine war. No criticisms at all of Putin or Russia. Attacks Ukraine for a lack of gratitude.

It's a good job Heatherwick spent a whole radio series telling us about the importance of beauty in architecture.
As a football & architecture fan, this is genuinely hilarious. How does heatherwick keep grifting this grift?

For the love of God people, can we put dates of publication on reports!!! 😩

How the hell am I meant to contextualise your VERY IMPORTANT research and findings when I have no clue if they were published yesterday or 10 years ago? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Great that they're trying not to murder journalists, they may not get it right every time, but you can't fault them for effort!
MBS claims the murder of Khashoggi was "a huge mistake and we're our doing our best that this doesn't happen again."
