You’re welcome. We are very lucky with birds in north London :) The jays have been really active lately, been hearing them a lot too. Lovely birds

Do post your wildlife finds and tag us please! Sounds like you see a lot 😀

We do get some red kites over north London - there’s a regular one that flies over Finchley to the Darlands Nature reserve, and I’ve seen another one that was originally tagged in Stevenage. And at Hampstead Heath. We also have buzzards, peregrines, sparrowhawks, kestrels, hobbies… always look up!

Photographs wanted!

Hello all! As many of you are aware, the LNHS has two wonderful journal publications - the London Bird Review and The London Naturalist. Two great benefits for joining :))
The cover of the last issue of the London Naturalist, with a photo of a caterpillar in vegetation. The cover of the London Bird Report 2023, with an image of a wheatear on the front.

Amazing what we can find in our gardens, on walls and fences. With the nights drawing in, it’s a great time to go out with a torch, to see what’s out there!

Garden wildlife. 1/2. From the fence/house last night. A male Anyphaena numida was on the prowl, as were probably 2 (though the photos were taken at different times, so maybe the same one) male Amaurobius similis. @britishspiders.bsky.social #londonwildlife

Moth numbers down to just 11:8 in the Camden trap overnight, but one NFY with just my second ever Dusky-lemon Sallow. A scarce species locally it seems - the Herts & Middx website only has one record from 2024, the one I caught on 6th October. #TeamMoth

Garden wildlife. Garden spider (Araneus diadematus). @britishspiders.bsky.social #londonwildlife
A spider with grey/brown patterning and white marks resembling a cross, sitting on a leaf, and with one of its back legs touching a strand of its web, and which will alert it to any prey getting trapped. Garden wildlife. 1/3. Last night I found 10 Segestria florentinas! They are still all relatively close together, and 3 were in an area I'd not noticed or properly checked before on one side of the garage door frame.

Feeding time.

I was chuffed to get this footage of the female kingfisher flying in with a fish to feed to her youngster down on the River Lea.

Sutton Peregrines. 1/2. Both the juvenile and adult males were on the north end of Quadrant House this morning. I didn't see the adult female, though she was on camera briefly this evening - she was making courtship calls, and getting blown about a bit in the wind. #londonbirds #birds
