I think I've finally solved the lingering effects of the reading burnout problem that's been plaguing me since grad school:

setting a daily increment of 20 pages to read, and rebuilding my patience and attention for reading entire books that way.

Not all daydreaming is "maladaptive" daydreaming is not inherently bad. Using your imagination to tell yourself little stories is free fun and entertainment. Its not bad to tell yourself stories while you fall asleep. Dreaming and imagining are good things.
