Not liking BlueSky management behaviour? There is an alternative, and it's b e a u t i f u l.
We’re thrilled to be bringing you a upcoming feature to help you find your people on Mastodon: Packs. (Or something… we’re still figuring out the name.)
As always, we want to build this important feature for the community WITH the community.
Read this blog post about our approach and let us know what you think!

The UK is heading down a dangerous & isolated path in flirting with leaving the European Convention on Human Rights. There is a space for the SNP to seize the ground of multilateralism and respect for the rules based system - www.scotsman.com/news/opinion...
As UK flirts with leaving European Convention on Human Rights, SNP must stand by the rule of law
The quest for Scottish independence must adhere to democratic norms and Europe’s rules-based system – international recognition matters

Some weirdo on Twitter has been absolutely melting down for like 36 straight hours because I posted:

When this is over, do not forget what ICE did, and what ICE is. And do not make room for them in society. Make sure they know that they are, and will continue to be, reviled and beneath contempt.

He was also involved in a murder-for-hire.

Pardons with corrupt intent technically impeachable.

I sometimes joke that I was trained by the jesuits.
As a punk rock dropout I met the bad-assed Michael Czerny who advised us about political organizing. He faced down death squads in El Salvador.
He married my wife and I.
He is the pope's right hand.

Meet the Jesuit Cardinal Behind Pope Leo’s Social Justice Revolution
From drafting Leo's first apostolic exhortation to championing migrants and the planet, Cardinal Michael Czerny is shaping the moral heart of this papacy.

I can't put into words how much satellites and airplanes are my enemy. This was taken about 50 miles from a major city, an hour time lapse.

"Unless you wish to threaten serious harm to them and great risk to yourself" -- i think everyone involved knows it's illegal and dangerous

sounds like it's to discourage ICE copters, not prank planes. don't post hot takes about shit you don't have the moral or practical standing to speak on

someone on the Internet who really wants to convince you to shine lasers at manned aircraft as a protest tactic “because they did it in Chile in 2019” is either:

1. a fascist fed, or,

2. so terminally stupid that they have become functionally indistinguishable from one

My latest: "Numerous studies show that majors in the humanities—typically, in departments of English, history, philosophy, religious studies, classics and languages—lead students to employment and life satisfaction outcomes as positive as those for majors traditionally championed as 'practical.'”
Counterpoint | Minnesota humanities graduates thrive in meaningful careers
"The stereotype of the underemployed history major is simply not true," professor Andrea Kaston Tange writes.

At the bank I was told "pick your four digit pincode but it can't be a year." "Aren't they all years?" I asked. We sat in silence for a bit.

Lived through this at a small paper. Every consultant pitch seemed like what someone would recommend if they didn't want any more newspapers.

If you think you know why US newspapers died, this feature documentary now streaming for free on PBS might surprise you. It wasn't the Internet. Newspapers were specifically targeted by vulture capitalists.

I composed the score for the film, which features electric cello & Crowfoot guitars.
Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink
A handful of journalists rebel against a hedge fund that is gutting newspapers nationwide.

It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap
HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "I'm willing to pay more for quality products if they are made in America, by Americans, who are paid a decent income." The tweet shows Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech" painting, which is often used to show the tweeter is expressing a brave opinion. HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "MINIMUM WAGE JOBS WERE NOT MEANT TO BE A CAREER. Why does no one understand this? Entry level jobs are STEPPING STONES to better jobs. No one wants to work towards that though." HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "Buy $5 gloves instead of $50 ones. Trust me." The tweet shows a box of "Gorilla Grip" gloves. The label on Gorilla Grip gloves show they're made in China.

This rebel cow didn’t read the cow instructions, and is like why should I stand up and bend my neck down to reach the grass like my brothers and sisters when I can just lie like this with my mouth at grass level
