THE GUNSLINGER ON THE BEACH (1982)

The winter months of 1980-81 were tough. My wife and I became parents with the arrival of our daughter in November, and I needn't tell anyone who has children what that means in terms of lifestyle changes...like lack of sleep. 1/4

Roland Deschain, the last gunslinger, stares contemplatively across the sea as waves gently lap the shore. Footprints can be seen in the damp sand leading to where he sits, pistol unstrapped at his hip and bedroll at his side. The sun hangs low but intense, blazing a line of orange across the horizon. Over a low stretch of wispy clouds, the silhouette of an asymmetrical tower rises dream-like in the sky. Odd projections mark the sides while spires of varying height sit atop the peak like chaotic crenelations.

Water spirals and froths, rising at opposite edges of the panel with the massive displacement of the dragon rising. The rib supports of its wings are thick and spiked, but the flesh between is tattered and showing through at the edge of its wings. A cloud of orange billowing smoke rises behind. Lines of fiery debris launch in random directions. A spire of rock rises from the ocean as a tiny figure perches atop faces the massive beast.

A warrior in green tunic and bronze horned helm, tense in the aftermath of battle, stands over the corpse of a huge lizard. His sleeve is torn but his sword is still firmly gripped in gloved hand. As he stares down, a dark-haired damsel with eyes pressed closed reaches up to grip one shoulder and wrap her other hand around his neck as if needing him to support her weight.

@adobe.com. Why can't I (easily) dismiss a bunch of your persistent toolbars? And why are they there by default? They sit on top of work. Whatever metrics you used to create this behaviour, clearly didn't take into account designers trying to evaluate their work on the fly.
