Shame is that Tron: Ares was pretty solid imho. Greta Lee and Jodie Turner-Smith smashed it.

Tron as a franchise has always had outstanding women: Lora and Yori, Quorra and Gem, Paige and Mara, Eve and Athena.

Even Elisabeth Dillinger has a bg and history that's more than just "Dillinger's mom."

41yo white woman who loves Tron and found ARES surprisingly good. Not groundbreaking prestige Oscar-bait, but then again it's Tron.

A lot of the published reviews have been giving "I read the wiki summaries of the previous two films" sloppiness as well, which is... something.

The story was actually not a garbled mess! It managed to fit that campy/heartfelt/horrifying/exciting blend I enjoyed in the 1st two films!

The callbacks felt genuine without being cynical-meta-IP-shaming horseshit!

The soundtrack slaps and the pacing was so much better than Tron & Legacy's!

Anyway I saw Ares on Friday with my expectations in the gutter and it was really fucking good. Which makes me even pissier, because I'd rather not agree with JL's creative choices on anything ever 😐

Director Joachim Rønning says that many of the easter eggs and classic callbacks in ‘TRON: ARES’ were actually Jared Leto’s idea.
