First, it staves off apathy, cynicism, and despair.

Second, it demonstrates to those who might use violence against innocent civilians that they would be doing so against grannies, kids, neighbors.

Third, it shows allies and partners that the America they need is alive.

Here is my question, and it’s an earnest one I promise: whose mind will it change and to what end?

I don’t have any answers about what we need to do. But like, we did protests in 2017, and 2020. Among the biggest in NATIONAL HISTORY. Voting in my opinion has a much more direct effect than this.

The numbers I am seeing, and the breadth of people and places with basically no arrests and so forth, seem to me an unqualified political loss for them. It is a show of strength rather than the fight itself, but you can’t downplay it.

As for Ohtani, I think - and I am not exaggerating - that after eight years in the league he assured his spot in the Hall of Fame last night. He is that great a player.

Yeah, it's tough. You're right that any team can build, it's just frustrating seeing a team like Philly that actually IS willing to throw money around and yet be completely shut out of a market that's proving to be as lucrative as Japan has been lately.

MLB doesn't need a salary cap more than it needs owners who arent being cheap assholes and wont pay players for their worth.

Ohtani, Betts, and Freeman are perfect examples of cheap owners caring more about profits than championships.

I will agree with all of this with the caveat that *something* needs to be done concerning the Dodgers' hoarding of NPB All-Stars coming over to America.

Even when other teams offer players more money (i.e. the Phillies/Yamamoto) they all inevitably wind up together in LA. It's a cornered market.

I am a Phillies fan, we offered Yamamoto more money than the Dodgers did.

It sucks because West Coast teams will have an inherent, entirely free will advantage in that market, and ANY measure to temper that goes against my beliefs but is necessary to keep a competitive balance.
