#16DaysOfActivism - LAWRS’ Young Women’s Advisory Board, which gives direction to our advocacy and policy work on young migrant women, is exploring how the fetishisation of the ‘Latina’ image shapes identity and safety, and affects their political participation (1/2)

#16DaysOfActivism - We cannot end VAWG while misinformation about it is allowed to spread unchecked. Today, we’re sharing the reality survivors face in the midst of the weaponisation of VAWG. (1/2)

#16DaysOfActivism 💜 ✊🏽 - Our Director, Gisela Valle, tells us how scapegoating is being used by the current government as a way to ignore larger widespread issues. Positioning migrants as the enemy isn’t going to fix severe structural issues that affect all communities in the UK.

#16DaysOfActivism - When VAWG is used as a tool to further anti-immigration agendas, it creates a space for myths, exaggeration or misrepresentations. (1/2) #NotInOurName #MigrantJustice

#16DaysOfActivism VAWG is weaponised when women’s experiences and pain is used to justify racism and harsh immigration policies. (1/4)

#16DaysOfActivism - Recently, the fight against gender-based violence has been co-opted by the far-right, anti-migrant agenda. (1/4) #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #MigrantJustice

#16DaysOfActivism - Migrant women who are victims of gender-based violence and modern slavery, already facing a hostile environment, will be particularly impacted by this government’s immigration policy. (1/4)

#16DaysOfActivism Eloisa’s* story is one that unfortunately many migrant women can relate to. Having to choose between safety or risking deportation is one that no woman should face. The Gov's immigration policy keeps women like Eloisa in danger. This cannot stand.

#16DaysOfActivism - Today we are amplifying the voices of the women we support through our caseworkers. These women should be at the centre of the discussion for migrant women’s rights. The women whose lives are affected by harsh immigration policies (1/2)

The Labour government’s proposal on having VAWG seems too good to be true. How can this become a reality when migrant women aren’t being included in this plan? (1/2) #16DaysOfActivism #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #MigrantJustice #SafeReporting

The govts. “earned settlement” plans punish and trap Black, minoritised & migrant victim-survivors of VAWG. These reforms are detrimental and cruel. They must be reversed.

Did you know how much UK's GDP could be boosted if we #LiftTheBan on work for people seeking asylum? People want to work, contribute and use their skills. Instead, they're trapped in limbo. Tell the Minister to #LiftTheBan now!

With @sbsisters.bsky.social, @evawuk.bsky.social and Hibiscus, we share this joint statement regarding the announced changes to the asylum system.

Refugee and migrant women's rights are human rights. We stand united in condemning these reforms and call on the govt to change its course immediately.

These dangerous changes will make migrants' lives unstable, driving them into less visible, less regulated work contexts.

The risk of exploitation, trafficking and modern slavery will only grow.

I joined Step Up Migrant Women calling on govt to #ScrapImmigrationWhitePaper

The White Paper will have a devastating impact on migrant women

Labour promised to make people's lives better but instead is pushing women into insecurity and destitution - shameful
