@lawrsuk.bsky.social
Specialist 'by and for' BME organisation. Over 40 years upholding Latin American & other migrant women's rights in the UK. Leading the #StepUpMigrantWomen coalition.
However, we keep resisting with strength and sorority. Today we're sharing a poem from members of the Young Women’s Advisory Board that encapsulates these feelings and the need for resistance. (2/2) #16Days

#16DaysOfActivism - We cannot end VAWG while misinformation about it is allowed to spread unchecked. Today, we’re sharing the reality survivors face in the midst of the weaponisation of VAWG. (1/2)

#16DaysOfActivism 💜 ✊🏽 - Our Director, Gisela Valle, tells us how scapegoating is being used by the current government as a way to ignore larger widespread issues. Positioning migrants as the enemy isn’t going to fix severe structural issues that affect all communities in the UK.

Some politicians and media outlets continuously label migrants as dangerous perpetrators, creating an environment of fear against these communities and obscuring the facts.
Here are some myths vs truths about VAWG that politicians and media outlets conveniently ignore. (2/2) #16DaysOfActivism

#16DaysOfActivism - When VAWG is used as a tool to further anti-immigration agendas, it creates a space for myths, exaggeration or misrepresentations. (1/2) #NotInOurName #MigrantJustice

We are urging the government to publicly call out this dangerous and deceiving narrative. Find the statement produced by @evawuk.bsky.social, Hibiscus, @sbsisters.bsky.social and @4refugeewomen.bsky.social against the weaponisation of VAWG here: buff.ly/SfjRCiO #NotInOurName

Far-right groups conveniently leave out of the narrative that most gender-based violence is committed by someone known to the survivor, and that structural inequalities and lack of support drive harm, not immigration status. (3/4) #16DaysOfActivism #NotInOurName
December 2, 2025 at 12:00 PM
Instead of addressing the real causes of gender-based violence, blame is shifted onto migrants—silencing survivors and leaving them even more vulnerable. Safety must be for all women, not a political tool. (2/4) #16DaysOfActivism #NotInOurName

These policies are supported and often rooted in racism and far-right rhetoric, framing migrant communities as a threat rather than centering their experiences. We must challenge these narratives and demand safety, dignity, and justice for all. (3/4) #16DaysOfActivism

#16DaysOfActivism Eloisa’s* story is one that unfortunately many migrant women can relate to. Having to choose between safety or risking deportation is one that no woman should face. The Gov's immigration policy keeps women like Eloisa in danger. This cannot stand.
