Why should we be looking at the first derivative for this, instead of simply at productivity?

I wonder what it means for children to be “under quarantine” these days? Schools really have a problem with kids missing classes. Is a parent supposed to stay home with the kid, missing work for 3 weeks? Do their siblings go to school, sports, scouts?

In South Carolina, more than 150 unvaccinated schoolkids are under quarantine after being exposed to measles. Across the U.S., total case counts could be even higher than the official number.

Even here, George lets JD digress for 45 seconds about how democrats are to blame for all kinds of bad things. That feels long the days. He’s showing integrity, but is he showing skill, in these days of very short clips?

You’re entirely right. Does anyone know who is running against him next year? The person might not have decided to run yet, but Fine is writing their campaign ads now

He doesn’t represent them. He openly works against their interests. If a Muslim who lives in his district were to call and ask for an normal constituent service, I wonder if he’d say “sure, my office help you with the VA,” or “F— off and die, Mr. Mohammed.”

If somebody were to tell me, “We’re sending you to do a morally repugnant job! Prove you’re qualified with this running test….” Well. I’m not sure I’d have the guts to argue with them, but I sure wouldn’t run very fast

We should also consider the relative risks. How often do cops find hit-and-run drivers and help hold them to account? How often do they show up an hour after an assault and shoot the victim’s dog?
lauraadrian2.bsky.social
Cops rarely investigate that sort of thing on their own initiative. There might be a prosecution if the injured person gathers witnesses and video evidence…but if you’re doing your own investigation you could just sue in civil court.

IANAL, but I think a formal declaration of war nullifies existing treaties.

Corollary to 12) All criminals deserve the death penalty. Some criminals are pardoned, or released on technicalities, or the poor overworked cops let them get away. That’s why they care so much about defining boys-will-be-boys and fraudsters as non-criminals

I have seen Him in the refugees arriving on our shores
And I’ve seen His Pontius Pilates on the House and Senate floors.
Let us build Him up an altar before ICE’s prison doors.

Don’t bother with the replies. Most of them assume ICE agents are too dim to read, rather than than being spiteful and gullible and immersed in toxic propaganda. (Are you too clever to be mean-spirited? Sorry, nobody is that clever.)

I wonder how many ICE dudes read Anne Frank’s diary in high school and thought, “I’d have gotten her sooner.”

Do you want to make it so nobody can repost your work? I don’t understand why? Or is it “keep reposts out of my feed, I don’t want to see them”

Even for dessert, I suspect a blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese would be cause for derision in New York politics.

Like egg salad or tuna salad, some places mash it smooth and others have bigger pieces of smoked whitefish in mayo, maybe with red onion. Zingerman’s (and some other less traditional places) add sour cream.

If a senator dies in office before a close vote, or if they die and a governor of the opposing party appoints their replacement, that would be far worse than electing somebody with a smidge less of the wisdom one gains from age. (Especially as young politicians can consult retired ones.)

I voted for a senator who is now 77 years old. He’s great! Energetic and passionately liberal. (A primary in 2020 nudged him farther left.) The power of his seniority on senate committees balances the risk he will die in office. An inexperienced senator his age has no such power.

There are tens of thousands of Mainers who’d be better than Collins. The state is small but not THAT small. (250k democrats age 25-70.) Leaving out the corrupt, the racist, the hopelessly disorganized…there should be options.
