Most of my career was focused on overpaid CEOs/Income Inequality. Just started a new job w a local Aging in Place program. I tweet social justice, aging, bargains, books, politics, gardens, adoption, humor, hope. Always curious.

Walmart and McDonald’s are among the top employers of workers who rely on food stamps.

McDonald's CEO raked in $18.2M last year — over 1,000x the company's median employee pay.

Walmart's CEO pocketed $27.4M — 930x the company's median employee pay.

See the problem?

Reminder: please telll any Latino folks in the DC area to avoid BWI parkway (295) & other similar roads that are covered under the park police. In particular, do not take any vans/trucks on that road. Technically commercial vehicles aren't permitted but that's never been enforced. Now it is.

Important thread. Looks like comments are turned off but I’ll post some thoughts on it in my own comments once I’m fully awake.

That might be 2025
I think what grates on me most about this is the apparently straight-faced use of "cancelled" - the language of people who whine about misogynists being held accountable in any way for their actions.
When a cancelled performer reënters the culture, we expect them to offer us a great work, channelling their newfound clarity into the finest art they’ve ever made. With his new comedy show and début novel, has Louis C.K. met the bar?

I often listen to podcast help me sleep, but @theresthistory.bsky.social one on Grover Cleveland Now has me wide awake & wondering why DNA hasn’t definitively settled the question of whether Cleveland was the father of the boy.

I think the podcasts may have missed some points b/c gender

Remember 6 weeks ago when Admiral Alvin Holsey, head of the U.S. military’s southern command, abruptly decided to retire?
Makes me think at least one top-ranking officer knows what a war crime is.

Interesting local indicator.

I feel like it might be an easy one to play with though.

Trump has trampled the Constitution, trashed the economy, and ceded the next century to China. Someone in my replies on Bluesky used the word "Latinx". I have never felt more politically homeless.

I have thoughts about assimilation: I'm from PA (as were my parents, grand-parents, etc., etc). Most patriotic side of my family. My grandmother taught in a one-room schoolhouse & knew more about American history than anyone I've met. And she grew up speaking a German dialect. Pennsylvania Dutch

The DC shooting story is really getting to me because we literally trained this man as a child soldier for a death squad in a forever war and Stephen Miller et al want to blame it on other cultures? It's our culture, American culture, that killed that woman.

Ok, husband and I are watching Mary Poppins by ourselves and these lyrics made me cry.

One of the delights of watching Mary Poppins tonight is knowing Dick Van Dyke is still worth is and about to turn 100. I wonder how many of the other chimney sweeps are still around. And how old are the actors who played Jane and Michael now?

Journalists: this would be a great feel-good story

🔥POWERFUL AD ABOUT ICE AGENTS: “What will you say when your kids ask you about your day? A mask can’t hide you from your neighbors, your family, God… you can walk away, but the shame will follow you home.”
November 27, 2025 at 9:43 PM
I’ve heard that yesterday helicopters were involved in ICE abductions on 295. We need to keep spreading the word to our inside the beltway Latino neighbors to avoid the Baltimore-Washington parkway, particularly in the early morning. We need to do more than that, but I’m not sure what it is

One of the problems with excessive CEO pay is that it makes other people think they are entitled to excessive pay. We didn't have these problems in the 1970s for a reason: taxation rates.
I was just thinking about contributing to the "charity" Feeding America. Until I discovered that the salary for its CEO, Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, was approximately $949,866 in 2024, with her total compensation being $1,113,502. Apparently, feeding America isn't her top priority.
