I feel bad because I imagine there are photographers, 3D artists, painters etc. who have spent a lot of time cultivating this aesthetic because they genuinely find it interesting, and they're going to have their work dismissed as "soulless" and "corporate" from this oversaturation

it's hard to divorce from the current hyperrendered aesthetic of AI image gen, to me. but I'm also not 100% convinced that I'm observing a real trend, this might just be like, a handful of aesthetic decisions on individual projects that annoy me lol

idk if I've described it clearly, but there's this trend I've noticed of hyperreal rendering, where everything is glossy or glowy or fuzzy, but nothing is made of anything in particular. I can see the appeal of it in like, surreal art, but in advertising and consumer products it makes me wanna barf

I'm not generally one to hate broad design trends as a whole, but I have to admit that this recent trend of like. "Textural maximalism divorced from any real life referent" triggers a genuine disgust response in me
