Danielle Smith's comments about the judiciary are among the most worrying things she's said about Alberta democracy.

Conservatives need to stand up to her. Now.

The things judges tend to like are the ones that are constitutional.

Perhaps the problem for the premier is is less about judges' opinions and more that she thinks being elected should give her carte blanche and that's (at least currently) not how this works.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says those seeking an independence referendum should not have “gatekeepers,” like the courts, standing in their way.

This is among the most democratically dangerous things Danielle Smith has said.

She wants to remove all checks and balances on her power and projects herself as the embodiment of "the people."

We have left the realm of liberal democracy in this province.
Smith doubled down on her anti court rhetoric today...

She even seemed to suggest that federally appointed judges couldn't render impartial rulings and that she believed her interpretation should always be above theirs.

The completely horrible bill was introduced fewer than 24 hours prior to his decision.

Maybe if they didn’t introduce bills past the scheduled ending of session there wouldn’t be an issue.

This statement is satire, right? Surely
Just received a gov statement: "Justice Feasby’s decision includes comments that are critical of a bill currently before the Legislative Assembly. ... Judicial statements about the merits of a proposed bill before the legislative branch interfere with well-established democratic processes."

The distressing thing about this is that anyone who's read deeper than school or TV documentary level knows that, in its multitudinous, multifaceted way, the Holocaust was so much worse than I think the majority of people understand
Among Republicans - " The Holocaust of Jews and Nazi Germany was greatly exaggerated or did not happen as historians describe"

Health care is supposed to help people, not insiders.

From Turkish Tylenol to private surgical deals, the CorruptCare scandal just keeps growing.

Albertans deserve answers.

Sign the petition for a public inquiry: albertandp.ca/corruptcare
Health care, not CorruptCare.
Albertans deserve the truth. Demand a public inquiry now.

This scandal stinks

Tour de force of investigative journalism here. Globe obtained evidence and made connections that Judge Wyant did not. Also, Globe confirmed former Edmonton Police Chief Dale McFee was guest of Sam Mraiche at Oilers game. EPS failed to be forthright with me when I raised this in a previous story. 1

Danielle Smith tried to sell her federal-Alberta energy deal to the UCP convention crowd: tepid applause.
She told them that this proved Canada can work well for Alberta’s interests: loud boos.

This ain’t a base that wants Smith to work with a Liberal PM on a better industrial carbon tax.

We caught the UCP red-handed.

We asked Public Safety & Emergency Services for any correspondence between Min. Ellis & the Edmonton Police Commission.

They told us - twice - there was none.

We asked the Commission & got 130 pages including 5 letters signed by Ellis. #abpoli

Using the voters list as a political weapon against a constituent feels like perfectly reasonable grounds for a recall to me.
Dale Nally's recall petitioner says he doesn't listen to constituents and cites his concerns over the notwithstanding clause.

Nally responds by saying the petitioner doesn't vote and works as a proxy for a group weaponizing the recall act and the petition has no merit.

Fascinating given the editorial board says Yahoo to private care.
Picard’s point on AB’s new “dual practice” plan: evidence shows letting surgeons bill public & private won’t fix wait times, it likely lengthens them, drains staff from public hospitals, adds red tape, and undermines access.

A solution in search of a problem. www.theglobeandmail.com/gift/70a7e73...
Allowing doctors to practise in both public and private systems solves what exactly?
What Alberta is proposing may sound good superficially, but it makes no sense in the Canadian context
