"k pellét" – it rhymes.
English has too many words. Trump is just innovating when he combines adopt and adapt into a singly word with multiple meanings.
Trump: "Christians and more, think of this, more than twice as likely foster care they'll adopt the general population. They adopt to it so easily. When they get out, they adopt to it like it's become second nature. It's amazing."

I know most people like sitcoms that "make sense" with plotlines that resolve cleanly and characters who are likeable, but for anyone else, I'd recommend A.P. Bio which is probably the weirdest show to get 4 seasons from a network (though 2 were on Peacock).

Narrator: This is not, in fact, science.
JD Vance: "Science as practiced in its best form is that if you disagree with it, then you ought to criticize it and you ought to argue against it."

He actually invoked the Laffer Curve which was a a joke all the way back in 1986 when Ferris Bueller's Day Off was released.
Also, a big tell that he's lying is when he says incomes are up even though it's November and most salaried folk haven't gotten new annual reviews since Trump took office.

I'll take any excuse to share this photo I took of a photo of Michael Shannon at the Fotografiska museum in Stockholm in 2016.

This weekend my wife, who is a public school teacher, asked me for the 18th straight year if I have Veterans Day off from work and for the 18th straight year I told her that I most people work on Veterans Day.

We will be having this same conversation for MLK Day and Presidents Day.

@hotdogsladies.bsky.social enjoyed the denominator talk on Do by Friday this week. You may be interested in Base Rate Fallacy.
For what it's worth, looks like final numbers on Prop 50 will be over 10 million voters vs 10.7-10.8 for 2022 & 2018. 2024 was 15.3.

I'd like @tylerhuckabee.bsky.social or someone to weigh in, but Hegseth's speaking cadence reads very "evangelical pastor who maybe didn't graduate from seminary" to me.
Hegseth: "We are not building for peacetime. We are pivoting the Pentagon and our industrial base to a wartime footing. Building for victory should our adversaries FAFO."

Watching "Jaws" for the first time since I entered my 40s and I cannot believe Roy Schneider was 41 when he filmed it.

I'm off two minds about this video. On the one hand, as an American I condemn this blatant use of Christian scripture in government communication, but on the other as a Christian I condemn this as a blatant misapplication of the Lord's Prayer.
Add a dose of propaganda to your morning coffee.. This smells of Russian-like “special operation”

Almost 3 weeks since my ankle exploded after stepping on a pinecone, I finally did a decent trail run/hike. Only had 1 mountain biker almost run me over.

Costume idea for next year that anyone can use: Oscar Isaac on the set of Inside Lleweyn Davis.
Note that this is not the character Lleweyn Davis, but the actor Oscar Isaac in costume as Lleweyn Davis – which you can tell because he's holding a stuffed cat that is a stand-in for the actual cat.

We always give out full-sized candy bars on Halloween because we don't get that many trick or treaters and my wife always wanted to be one of the houses with the big candies, but this year my teen also wanted to give out ramen packets. I thought nobody would take them, but some kids are just weird.

I am once again asking people to understand that the religious left exists. The right-wingers running the government do not encompass the entirety of American religiosity, let alone American Christianity.
So I have a question. Are there any people out there who actually have a strong RELIGIOUS objection to all the stuff ICE is doing now? Not a philosophical one or a moral one, but something akin to the "deeply held religious beliefs" cited to avoid making cakes or websites.

On the long lists of "things that haven't been around as long as you thought" and "things that came out of military research," the concept of layering clothing is one of the most surprising on both lists.
The next chapter of GEAR is out today.

Saw some teens on e-bikes today and realized that I never would have had to run home and back to retrieve track spikes that one time in 10th grade because I would have had an e-bike instead of getting a ride every day from a friend who had class at 7 when I didn't start until 8.

"If something evil is popular, is it still evil?" is basically the defining social question of our time.
