Reminder that the thing you’re fundamentally buying when you subscribe to The Verge is our ethics policy: we don’t do brand deals and pretend they’re reviews and we insist companies (and the White House) be on the record if they want quotes in our stories. Worth it! www.theverge.com/ethics-state...

My pet theory is that execs think AI is convincingly human-like because they are completely surrounded by assistants. They believe people exist to serve and flatter them.
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
Execs are embracing AI more than their employees are, new research suggests
Research from HR software company Dayforce suggests that executives are leaning into AI far more than their employees.

you just can't have a meaningful conversation about the potential benefits of "AI" while this stuff is happening. it's like trying to talk about how useful an airplane might be during a hijacking

the verge's reviews program has always been the heart of the site and one reason we jealously protect it and refuse to do brand deals is so we can just say the products are bad www.theverge.com/report/82215...

Sustainable band lineups include four cool people (Ramones), four dorks (Weezer), or two cool people and two dorks (Cheap Trick). Unsustainable band lineups include one cool person and three dorks (Pixies)

So, yes. Bugonia is an absolute stunner of a film that perfectly captures what makes this new dark age of angry men, anti-intellectualism, and "doing your own research" feel so profoundly doomed. My review:
