I unfortunately have few meetings today so I'm listening to ACIP nearly in full.

It sounds like we are back to having bad scientific discussions where members are bringing their emotional baggage to the discussion. Drs. Meissner and Hibbeln are trying to be a voice of reason.

Despite what Hoeg said today at the ACIP meeting.

Current speaker speaks about his infant’s death, which is tragic, but then starts gay bashing.

I gasped.

If you're an expert in your field but still occasionally feel a tinge of imposter syndrome, just have a look at some of the current ACIP lineup.

YES THIS IS WHY ONLY CDC EXPERTS SHOULD PRESENT

Dr Langer: The reason you don’t see a lot of horizontal transmission today is because of universal vaccination.

I came back from meetings to the vote language, and…all this BS for a vote that is basically “eh if you want”.

Also weird testing for HepB after one dose? Wtf man.

(Good news for those states that want to do their own thing though)

Dr. Meissner is the only expert left on ACIP. A lot of people in the public health world are unhappy that he’s part of the Great Barrington Declaration, but he’s doing his penance now.
Dr. Meissner, one of the few vaccine experts left on #ACIP: takes strong issues to each presentation. Comments for each. So many statements I don't agree with. Dr. Cynthia Nevison: conflated serology and protection - untrue.

Wow. It is something to listen to a group of "experts" misinterpret decades of data while sounding authoritative- this is how misinformation spreads.

Nevison alleges that the models overstate risk and data does not, and risk of horizontal transmission has been overstated.

Again: this is someone with no hepatitis B expertise and a well documented anti-vaccine bias.

They could not find an expert to present on this?

“Horizontal transmission risk has been overstated and isn’t really an issue”

WHAT?!

WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Pebsworth: Well some parents hate vaccines, so we should listen to them and get rid of them.

Some people also hate seat belts, so clearly we need to get rid of those too.
Vaccine opponent Vicky Pebsworth presents this slide showing that rampant vaccine disinformation has had its desired effect in reducing vaccinations.

She also seems to use this as justification for creating barriers to vaccine access.

I read this agenda while getting my kiddo up and dressed and that’s the only reason I didn’t yell “WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!” multiple times.
Going to be an awful day for anyone who appreciates vaccines, as Kennedy's ACIP meets today. The agenda is up and even the person representing CDC in the first session is a hard-core antivaxxer (Mark Blaxill). Starting today at 8am Eastern.
