🇺🇸No program has felt the strain of the government shutdown more than SNAP. Learn more about the fate of 'food stamps' with Harvard's Sara N. Bleich, AEI's Angela Rachidi, and @hungerfreeamerica.bsky.social's @kimmosc.bsky.social.

The coordinated nature of this—none are facing voters in 2026—means that either Schumer approved it or failed in his job as Senate Majority Leader to stop it.

Dems voting "no" get zero credit until they demand a change in leadership. Schumer out as Leader, Durbin out as Whip.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)
King (2030)

THIS.
Harm to SNAP recipients, federal workers, and others is real. In a normal democracy it’d make sense to prioritize reducing that harm in the short term.

In a rapidly backsliding democracy, harm is happening no matter what. Preventing authoritarian consolidation is the most harm-reducing move.

One of the talking points I keep seeing from Democrats is that part of the deal is that it will "ensure federal workers receive back pay" but that's the existing law!

That's not something you've won in negotiations. That's just the letter of the law. You don't get to claim that as a win.

Hi @schumer.senate.gov and @kirstengillibrand.bsky.social! If you vote for this horrible deal, I will spend the next 4 years making sure you are both primaried and retired from the US Senate.

In case you forgot, Jay Jacobs is the worst and Hochul needs to dump him like yesterday!
Has New York Democratic Party chairman Jay Jacobs resigned over Mamdani yet? I hope he hasn't, so that he can instead resign over *improving Republican margins over Trump 2024 in an anti-Republican wave election*. Trump won Nassau by just 4%—now look at this bloodbath

I don't know what will happen in NYC tonight, but I do know that regardless of outcome, any number of public figures, celebrities, politicians and institutions that oppose Mamdani have done so with a level of rhetorical ugliness, racism, and dishonesty that should neither be forgotten nor forgiven.

Still true! Hopefully after today we'll never have to think about him again.

1. No ID required in New York unless it's your first time voting.
2. New York has fusion voting which allows candidates to be nominated by multiple parties
3. Adams dropped out after the deadline to remove your name passed
4. Cuomo lost the Democratic primary, so he's running on a third party line

We gathered at the steps of New York City Hall to demand that Gov. Hochul fund SNAP benefits for the 3 million New Yorkers who rely on them.

“We urge her to use State funds to pay for all or some of November SNAP benefits, just as multiple other states have already done.”

I want to read an entire dissertation on the societal impact of the "I Voted" sticker. I'm serious.
🚨🎃 for my fellow NYC halloween voters and sticker obsessives: there are a total of FOUR items available to you today — ask your poll worker!

1. halloween voting sticker
2. halloween **temporary tattoo**
3. borough-specific early voting sticker
4. regular early voting sticker

gotta catch ‘em all 🗳️

Great question, Rand Paul! For starters:

1. Wages that have not kept up with inflation
2. Lack of affordable child care for working parents
3. Exploding healthcare & housing costs
4. 30% increase in grocery prices in the past 5 years
5. A global pandemic that people are still recovering from

SNAP isn't about "people who don't work." It's about people who don't get paid enough to live.

Of the 40 or so million people who rely on food stamps:

* Two-thirds are children, seniors, or disabled

* Most working-age adults who receive SNAP are employed—but in jobs that pay poverty wages

There is a whole contingent of Twitter that has convinced itself that high turnout is bad for Mamdani and good for Cuomo. If they actually believe that, the breakdowns on election night are going to be epic.

On November 1st, 42 million Americans will lose their food assistance, unless Republicans in Congress re-open the government.
'Uncharted territory': Ongoing shutdown threatens food aid for 42 million people
SNAP, the country's largest anti-hunger program, dates back to the Great Depression and has never been disrupted this way. Most recipients are seniors, families with kids, and those with disabilities.

Hey folks, maybe we could take a break from talking about a Maine Senate primary happening in 8 months to talk about a very important Maine ballot measure that folks are voting on in less than 2 weeks!
New poll: UNH finds that November’s ballot measure in Maine that would greatly restrict mail voting, and impose voter ID, is *very* tight.

It’s 49% no, 48% yes. scholars.unh.edu/survey_cente...
