96% of women surveyed said that menopause affects their quality of life. Still lots to do to raise awareness & improve education on this really important issue. Thanks to the wonderful @carolynharris.bsky.social @mariellafrostrup.bsky.social & the #MenopauseMandate team👏🏻 #WorldMenopauseDay

“If assisted dying was an option, Dad would have been able to choose what was right for him.”
At this week’s SNP conference, Annemarie Williams shared her father’s story — and why giving dying people that choice matters. #YestoDignity

Good catch up with Minister for Veterans & People @louisesandherjones.bsky.social to discuss the excellent work she is doing to support our #veterans through the #ArmedForcesCovenant which ensures that those who served our country are treated fairly armedforcescovenant.gov.uk/about-the-cove…
This week I spoke in Parliament about the need for better care & recognition for people living with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS). Huge thanks to Cat Smith MP for leading this important debate & shining a light on an often-overlooked condition #PoTS #SpenValley
With proceedings in the Lords continuing from next week, I hope that Peers will continue to deliver on the mandate provided by MPs to introduce meaningful choice for dying people who need it and greater protection for all at the end of life.
This case is yet more evidence of what we already know: the cruel status quo denies dying people the choice they want and need in the country they call home, and criminalises families' compassion for the people they love at the end of their lives. It is unfit for purpose.
The blanket ban on assisted dying in this country has put Louise - and too many like her - through more than any grieving widow should have to experience. I join Louise in her relief that this process is over. But it should never have happened.

Assisted dying: Woman 'does not regret' taking sick husband to Dignitas
Louise Shackleton who took her sick husband to end his life at Dignitas in Switzerland says it is "unfair to be treated like criminals" and she "doesn't regret it".

Thank you to Communities Inc. for coming to Parliament during #HateCrimeAwarenessWeek to talk about the important work they do tackling hate and prejudice - sadly their work is more important than ever #NationalHCAW #NoPlaceForHate
So moving to visit the ‘Speak Their Name’ exhibition in Parliament. The beautiful quilts are created by families & friends in loving memory of someone they’ve lost to suicide. A powerful reminder of the need for continued work on suicide prevention: speaktheirname.org/home/
Today marks 4 years since the murder of #SirDavidAmess. Thinking of David’s family and friends, and everyone whose lives were changed forever on that dreadful day❤️ Political violence has no place in our society.
On Friday I joined the panel on BBC Radio4’s #AnyQuestions With challenges both at home and abroad we need leadership that brings people together not pulls them apart. Thanks to Alex Forsyth and my fellow panelists for a respectful debate @bobbywdean.bsky.social, Therese Coffey and David Blair
Excellent statement from Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood on the antisemitic Manchester terrorist attack. And a clear message of unity: “…those who seek to divide us, by pitting one against another - they will fail. No act of terror will ever defeat us.”
The ceasefire agreement in Gaza is a long-overdue moment of hope. The violence must end, the hostages must be released, and aid must reach those in desperate need. There is still a long way to go to achieve a lasting peace and a two-state solution but this is an important step⤵️
Today marks 2 years since the horrific attacks on Israel by Hamas terrorists. It will be a deeply difficult day for many. We must: Release the hostages. Stop the bombing. Surge aid into Gaza. Secure a ceasefire and work towards a lasting peace for all Israelis and Palestinians.
Thinking of our whole policing community today on #NationalPoliceMemorialDay #NPMD2025
Today we stand shoulder to shoulder with the relatives, friends and colleagues of fallen officers, showing them that their sacrifice is not forgotten 🌹

Today's historic decision, taken alongside some of our closest allies, reflects the commitment to a two-state solution & affirms the inalienable right of the Palestinian people. Two states is the only way to safeguard long term peace & security for Israelis & Palestinians alike.

Some really powerful speeches in the House of Lords, concluding 2 days of very good debate. I welcome the additional scrutiny of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill as it passes through Parliament and we are another step closer to giving dying people the choice and dignity they deserve.
Every stage this Bill clears brings us closer to the safe and compassionate assisted dying law that people across the country are calling for. This reform has won the support of the public, MPs and now Peers, moving it decisively closer to becoming law.

Ahead of #NationalFitnessDay on 24th Sept I joined @ukactive.bsky.social & colleagues in Parliament to talk about the many benefits of physical activity & exercise. Getting active is great fun and supports the Government’s excellent work on prevention and early intervention #GetActive🏋🏼‍♀️🤾🏾🤸🏼‍♀️
I spoke to @skynewsrss.bsky.social about our political discourse and the need to listen to people with different views with civility - however much we may disagree, and however angry we are, there is no place for political violence in a civilised society.
