I'm always glad to hear how much you like her final design. 🥹I think the design was mostly done a good month or so before her appearance, but the thing that tripped us up were these big sleeves she had. I scrapped them about a week before, and that was the final touch she needed.

Not to ramble further, but in general, the process of adding characters was slow burn irl too. That might be why we did it that way in-story. It was originally intended to be just Hisaki, Yasha, and Kijo, but then Kakon came along...then Haru...etc etc... we're also just noobie writers too lol!

But because she and Kakon had such a special relationship by that point, when it came time to do the arc proper, we elected to keep Haru - but hubby gave her quite the makeover. She was made a ranger like character, didn't need help anymore, could survive on her own and actually help guide the boys.

So our idea was to add a new character who could guide them, but the idea was pretty iffy in the original draft because Haru was, again, little sister-like and needed help with everything. Eventually it was only because the ninjas attacked that they found their way and she ultimately was unneeded. 😅

Hm, well I dunno if the process was fascinating exactly, but we wanted to give Touya a second arc as a villain, and make him smarter this time around. So with Yasha being kidnapped, and Kijo the tour guide being unavailable, both we and the boys realized they were stranded in a desert. Not ideal.

The funny thing (for me) is that she actually never was meant to do that. I had other ideas in mind for her, but suddenly she and Kakon were interacting a lot more than intended. I was like, what happened?? o.0 And the fact that the trend continues with her current iteration is even funnier. 🤣

Day 76 of posting art ‘til my hand is healed. Haru’s final design. It didn’t actually get finalized until like a week before she showed up in the comic, lol. But I’m happy with how her character has changed and obviously love her new design, too!

I am back home from the convention. I’ll write a proper blog post on it later, but yeah, we made so much more than all the past years at this con combined. 👀
Favorite moment of today: the guy who ran to our booth and asked to buy the book bundle after we were 90% packed up. Awesome 😎
