I had a year-long experiment with AI (LLMs) & creation myths. Stopped after realizing I could only expose LLM capability(?) to interpret metaphorical text in societal context, not the myth concepts themselves. Neither of which I’m competent to judge. Comments welcome. kgeographer.org/glos_on_paus...

It’s wrong to lump all top Trump people in one category. There are differences among them. But they do seem to fall into three (sometimes overlapping) categories:

• Ordinary criminals (grift and corruption).

• Sex criminals.

• War criminals.

Everyone (esp media) pay attention. In 2021 almost every Republican attacked the Biden administration and State dept for being too slow in approving Afghanistan special visas as Afghanistan fell.

Now they are attacking Biden for doing what they asked him to do.

Q to the hivemind: I'm wondering if anyone else around here's been building RAG systems for cultural collections/museums?

I'm curious about what/how you're indexing. Metadata, transcripts/chunks? Images full or segmented? LLM-generated descriptions? What's your queries and response workflow?

Phase A of my GLOS project digitized, and built exploratory tools for, canonical folklore indexes. Phase B, which attempted concept induction from creation myths using LLMs has stalled. Turned into a study of LLM interpretive capabilities, not myths. Inevitably. Blog post explains: kgeographer.org.

Today I joined ~200 others at the Les Camposines memorial site in the mountains of Catalunya, honoring those who died in the Batalla de l'Ebre in 1938. I heard my uncle's name read as one added to the plaques this year, and in some sense laid him to rest after 87 years, thanks to the Catalunya govt

November’s early darkness enfolds us. The smell of applewood fires and rot is a constant companion at twilight. We hurry between home and evensong, home and pub. Ghosts crowd the lanes, our folklore becomes filled with tales of cold teeth. Winter begins to growl. - #CLNolan

NYC born and raised. This great cover illustrates the world I saw growing up. I left in my late 20s. You can take the boy out of NY but you can’t take the NY out of the boy. Mamdani’s win is a breath of fresh air today.
A sneak peek at the cover of next week’s issue, which celebrates Zohran Mamdani’s historic win. #NewYorkerCovers

Due to return to the US in 2 weeks. To this. On the way back stopping in Spain to attend a memorial ceremony for Spanish Civil War deceased, where an uncle I never met will have his name inscribed on a plaque with others who died in Batalla de l’Ebre in 1938. Wondering what he would be doing now.
I'm shaking almost too hard to type. I entered SLC airport and heard screams and cries for help. I could see people gathered around, watching. I sped over to discover this woman face down on the floor, four grown men pushing her down, while she cried "HELP ME" and pled for her child.
