He died not far from this spot atop the ruins of Corbera d'Ebre and like many others his remains were never found.

Today I joined ~200 others at the Les Camposines memorial site in the mountains of Catalunya, honoring those who died in the Batalla de l'Ebre in 1938. I heard my uncle's name read as one added to the plaques this year, and in some sense laid him to rest after 87 years, thanks to the Catalunya govt

Just back from quick 3 day sidetrip to Albania. Butrint and Gjirokastër were highlights. A stark contrast returning to Vienna from Tirana - chaos to ordentlich.
