Not very often you see a 1990s phone phone box repurposed as like you do with the older red ones.

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

At quieter times, they should wait on red for motors, if there's no pedestrians around and the drivers are under the speed limit they can go green, otherwise a 45 seconds wait like pedestrians are used to....
Unless there's an unbreakably valid safety reason why not, all button-operated pedestrian crossings should activate the lights in pedestrians' favour instantly when pressed.

I wish my Gym used digital keys, they are the only reason I still carry my wallet. (& even then I have forgotten it a few times).

Also hotels - I somehow manage to break their stupid cards on every trip and need to get a replacement from reception.

Did the people making these mascots never watch Thomas the Tank Engine as kids? Interchangable faces can make them a tad more appropriate!
Ok #respect fans, a request. In the spirit of "mascotsilence" on the other place, if you're at the football (or any other sport for that matter) and see mascots doing the two minute silence, do grab a picture and send it across... Fine example of the genre:

Is there any better illustration of the damage the Tories have done to our country and their own reputation since Johnson than our local Conservative club?

Just after BJ was elected, no security shutters required...

"We will not introduce pay per mile"

Election

Months later, when the inevitable reality hits, "pay per kilometer" introduced.

(or am I too cynical?)
All that is to say: no one even remotely sensible in UK politics believes that pay-per-mile driving will not happen before too long.

Imagine how transformational 3 hours of free electricity could be, especially for those on the lowest incomes (e.g. retired pensioners, unemployed, full time carers)?

No need to worry about heating their house, running the washer/dryer, running the oven to make a hot meal, filling t'hot water tank.
Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Australia has so much solar that it's offering everyone free electricity
Australia's extensive solar power penetration makes so much energy that the government wants to offer free electricity at peak hours.

The impact of all the drivers leaving a football game on the buses.

More than doubling the journey time, even though I was leaving the bottom of the city centre so had less distance to cover.

Bus lanes on Trent Bridge & past the sports stadia when?

I still find it amazing that I often get the notifications for Debit/Credit card & contactless payments come through to my phone before the terminal even shows it's been approved!
The world before instant notifications about credit card charges is utterly inconceivable and I lived through it

Well there goes my morning!

Might have read the Medium posts and the book recommended therin but this story is fascinating every time I read it - can't believe it's never been made into a film.

Got to love the informal rule round here.

If there's a pumpkin or decorations on show you can knock, otherwise leave alone. Even overheard kids telling younger siblings/friends "we can't go to that one, no pumpkin"

Not had a single trick or treater the entire time I've been here.
As a single woman without kids, I am always caught out when trick or treaters knock on my door. “No, I don’t have any sweets to give you. Can I interest you in some Brie?”

Are temporary path closure notices limited to 6 months?

Seems somewhat daft we keep getting signs up saying paths are going to be closed for 6 months, while all the press releases have been saying it's at least 14 months from day 1.

"Independently Published" has now gotta mean AI Slop hasn't it?

No way this many biographies (mainly with no reviews) can be genuine can it?

Also, why are so many aimed at kids?

Another positive for independent bookshops - a slop filter!

The discourse has reminded of the carpet in a hotel I stayed at this summer (in Belgium - inside what would have been the Western Front ≈110 years ago).

Felt wrong walking on it, given they used to be a mark of solem respect.
