MMWR is so important! I hope all of these RIFs are successfully challenged in court.

RIFed:
Office of Science (OS) - MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report)

MMWR is crucial to quickly disseminate info about infectious disease.

Like the famous MMWR in 1981 about an outbreak of pneumocystis pneumonia among gay men in LA. That was the first mention of what is now known as AIDS
June 5, 1981—The First Report of AIDS in the U.S.
By Erika Mills ~ In the June 5, 1981 edition of the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), the CDC described a rare lung infection among a group of gay men in Los Angeles. This article, titl…

“Authoritarianism is as American as slavery, as internment camps, as police brutality, as voter suppression. To fight it, white people have to stop pretending government oppression arrived overnight and start dismantling the systems that have been incubating it all along.”
White People’s Performative Ignorance Is Exhausting—Opinion
Disbelief over authoritarianism in America isn’t a cutesy personality trait. It’s a confession: You haven’t been paying attention.

While the recent interim funding by the Gates Foundation for the DHS Program buys time for data collection of selected surveys and data availability, many countries don't benefit and the future of new surveys remains uncertain. The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

An irony of GOP/MAGA's attacks on university sector is that, structurally, it's as close to a "free market" as you'll find in US.

There are 1000s of universities, mostly operating independently.

Unlike tech sector (or coal, oil/gas, eyeglasses, etc), market concentration is incredibly low.

The basic infrastructures that allow women to be participants in public life—birth control & abortion access, no fault divorce, childcare access & affordability, civil rights law in employment and public accommodations, the minimal efforts to mitigate sexual and domestic violence—are all crumbling.

I am deeply grateful for the work of NSF staff this year to keep research & grants moving in a difficult environment. I view this petition as a means to demonstrate impact & interest in ensuring access to a vital grad research program.

I repeat that whenever you see a man toss a woman around in front of witnesses and cameras, you can bet he’s had practice in private.

UNC sociologist Barbara Entwisle told me there’s no guarantee the Independent Census Scientific Advisory Committee's recommendations will reach the Census Bureau: “So this is a bit of a risk. But turn it around. If we don't do this, then what? Then there is no feedback, no advice that’s out there.”

The Heritage Foundation specifically named contraception as a "culprit" for low birth rates. The pronatalist movement is using bad demography to cast low birth rates as inherently problematic and thus justify pronatalist efforts, like reducing access to contraception. 1/
