Eight years?! Cheers for keeping the tradition alive! 🎅🎬 #movies
🎄HOLIDAY WATCH LIST EXTRAVAGANZA VOL. VIII🎄

Eight years in and this Christmas tradition, aimed at getting @timjamesmedia.ca to watch more #movies, is STILL GOING STRONG!

This time we're breaking out of Hollywood, and showcasing films NOT MADE IN AMERICA! Five days, five flicks, let's go #Cinema

I’m on the west coast so I’m good, but this World Series is going to fuck up a lot of Halloween parties in Canada

Everywhere I go, people are wearing Jays gear. People I know who have never watched baseball (me included) are staying up past midnight to for an 18th inning. The coffee shop has baseball donuts.

And, I cannot emphasize this enough, I am in a city *3000 km from Toronto*

Canada is behind this team

Canceling Jimmy Kimmel show is not about Charlie Kirk, just like going after universities was not about antisemitism and occupying DC was not about fighting crime.

Once again, this is a massive public jobs program for fascists.

This bill was never just about tax cuts and gutting social services. It's about investing our collective resources in violence and using state power to spread fear and destroy solidarity. We need to resist this with all we've got.
I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

You gain nothing by playing nice. They will not compromise. And the only thing worse than their extremism is our inability to recognize it. We need fighters who understand the moment we're in. If you can't or won't fight, you should not be in office.

I truly hope this puts a definitive end to the perpetual insistence by Democrats that they can compromise with Republicans. You can't. These people are extreme, depraved, and shameless. They just stripped healthcare from 17 million people to give themselves a tax cut.

omg
this
like really.
Frankly, private sector could do this too.
Medium risk, crazy high potential reward.
Can't think of a time where some well-placed philanthropic $s could play a bigger role in improving a Canadian university

Pick a research specialty your school is already good at, get a big donor to seriously endow 5-10 chairs, recruit the crap out of USians.

Easy path to global staus.

After like, four Hayao Miyazaki movies, I think you're finally sinking into his film style! That's great man

Next year, we're going back to the R-rated anime. Shit's gonna get dark
Howl's Moving Castle (2005)

Anime 'bonus' from @kdnewsguy.bsky.social. Opens with Chopin, so my wife was happy! Calcifer is top notch. Better than Catbus? Different colour = different door... easy. Other magic... huh. Don't overthink this, just enjoy the ride. MUCH better than Kiki's! #MoviesForTim

The violinist behind Zuck in the image is scarier than any movie I saw in 2024. Including The Substance (2024), which is my favourite movie of 2024
The Social Network (2010)

Oh! That violinist (my wife noticed) isn't actually playing! BCIT wasn't this wild... maybe we needed a rowing team? The movie is an incredible story, if accurate. Justin Timberlake was captivating. Enjoyed the ending (clicking refresh). Good movie! #MoviesForTim

I remember the titular field being bigger... if it were this size, they wouldn't have so many debt problems
Field of Dreams (1989)

Wait... $7 for two dogs and two beers? Baseball has a certain romance to it, which made this enjoyable! The (unexplained) paranormal side isn't my style... it's like John Cena 'You Can't See Me' vibes (sometimes?) to the players. It was alright. #MoviesForTim

Dr. Strangelove (1964)

Captivating, intense deadlines... oh, and it's a comedy! Needed to digest the ending (what's with the hand?), but after reading more, it's a great satire. Graphics of the USA bomber were sus (#1957CGI). Really enjoyed this one, and might need to watch it again! #MoviesForTim

12 Angry Men (1957)

Jurors explaining the evidence was an effective way to tell the story. Acting felt hurried in certain scenes. Could high-waisted pants ever return? Characters had clear traits/stereotypes... like wrestling! Easy to follow along. This is the winner of #MoviesForTim, so far!

Double Indemnity (1944)

First, 'indemnity' is a big word. The figure on crutches (at the start) is an intriguing tease. The killers are... faces or heels? The term 'heel' is actually used - 10 points for Slytherin! Straight down the line, this was fun. PS. Medford, Oregon sounds nice. #MoviesforTim

This long-running Christmas tradition has a new home on @bsky.app! The goal is the same: encourage my old pal @timjamesmedia.bsky.social to see more #movies.
